So I'm a little late to the Squid Game party, but I binged it fast. Like everyone else, I was hooked! But beyond the gripping storyline, each episode felt like a masterclass in consumer money mindsets – the good, the bad, and the downright desperate. It got me thinking about the key takeaways for BFSI brands, and I was itching to share them here. Swipe through for my top 10 consumer behaviour lessons, straight from the Squid Game arena. PS: If you found these insights teeny bit valuable and would like me to continue creating a series of content like this drop me a DM with your favourite series. Let's run it as #TheLearningFromSeriesSERIES!

Right, let's talk about building BFSI brands, shall we? I've been working with BFSI brands from the very start of my advertising career. And what I've seen...well, let's just say I've seen a lot. Too many BFSI Brand Managers are lost in the weeds, blinded by what I call the Rational Delusion. They think they can explain their product RTBs and USPs and UVPs to their audience with fine-print-like headlines. This obsession with logic is a creativity killer. Especially in something like financial services, where drowning your audience in details – interest rates, complex jargon – is a sure-fire way to bore them to tears. Wake up! You're not selling spreadsheets, you're selling a future, a dream, a sense of security. So, how do we break free? Emotion. Pure, unadulterated emotion. That's the key that unlocks the consumer's heart (and their wallet). Your creative campaigns are not about explaining, they’re about engaging and entertaining. You have to capture their imagination, make them feel something. Commercial gain follows emotional connection. People don't buy features, they buy feelings. And how do you know what resonates? You test it. Not with focus groups dissecting every word, but with methods that actually measure emotional response. Uncover how your creative makes people feel, not just what they think about it. That's where the magic happens. That's where you find the work that truly connects. That's the work worth investing in. Remember, logic informs, emotion compels. Choose wisely.

More than 5 months at Motley - when it was originally meant to be 3, says a lot about the kind of place it is. As a media student, I couldn’t have asked for a better first glimpse into agency life. Besides working on Motley’s social media, I got to work on food chains, apparel brands, banks, and even a cinema chain - a mix that made this internship both comprehensive and uniquely challenging. Whether it was researching festive ad campaigns, working on Children’s Day creatives, or leading a Bharatiya Bhasha Diwas vox pop, every task shaped my understanding of the industry and gave me something new to figure out. And then, there was Motley’s winter party in Mumbai - a day of team bonding, fun chaos, and finally meeting the faces behind the WhatsApp group messages. What truly set this experience apart was Motley’s work culture: non-toxic, deeply respectful, and genuinely supportive. Whether you’re an employee or an intern: • Your time is valued. • Your boundaries are respected. • Your growth matters. My needs as a full-time college student were always considered, and support was provided whenever I needed it. Initiatives to deepen learning and understanding within the crew were regular, and our brainstorm sessions taught me that while creativity is free-flowing, it always thrives with some structure. More than just an internship, this was a space where I learned, experimented, and grew. The founders Priyanka Surve & Jason Menezes have been incredible mentors, and I know their guidance will stay with me long after this internship. And the Motley Crew - the most welcoming, brilliant, and #UnboringAF team - made every day here worth it. Grateful to have had this opportunity so early in my career, and I gave it my absolute best. Excited to keep exploring this industry! #InternshipExperience #CreativeAgencyLife #FirstAgencyStint #Grateful #ExcitedForWhatsNext

"Corporate culture will eat you alive." The idea of internships and "corporate culture" always intimidated me, especially when experienced individuals warned college students that it's far from fun and games. This perspective and persistent fear took an incredible turn when I applied for the position of copy intern at Motley—these 3 months taught me not only about agency life or copywriting but something important that I plan to abide by throughout my future corporate endeavors. I was surrounded by a work culture where I was given the liberty to experiment, learn, explore and even make mistakes. The Motley family has taught me that your workspace doesn't have to be stressful! And that being an intern is neither meaningless nor a waste of time. Throughout my internship experience, I felt valued and supported. This experience has taught me how important building a healthy and non-toxic work culture is. I was mentored, guided, and principally cared for as an intern. I am grateful for my first copywriting experience at an #UnBoringAF agency! Working here was also a great experience because Priyanka Surve and Jason Menezes saw potential in me and hired me, and for that, I am thankful. The whole crew will always inspire me. Thank you, especially for the cakes, sweet Christmas gifts, and for being my last-minute Secret Santa! I am incredibly grateful for these 3 months and for the learning opportunity. My future endeavors in corporate life will always be backed by my incredible experience at Motley! As much as I have more to pen down, I hope to meet the amazing crew in person one day and have a wholesome get-together! Thank you again to the Motley crew: Jason Menezes, Priyanka Surve, Aniruddh Kashyap, Soniya Lokhande, Sejal Pal and Niharika Goel✨️. I learnt so much from all of you! Best regards, Riya Rode Copy Intern
