🧠 Mental Health Awareness Should Be a Daily Priority, Not Just Once a Year! While October 10th is recognized as World Mental Health Day, I strongly believe mental health is not a topic to be discussed just once a year. It should be the number one priority for every person and every organization, every day. Having personally battled depression and stress early in my life, I am a strong advocate for mental health awareness—not reactively, but proactively. The data is stark: globally, nearly 800,000 people die by suicide each year, and mental health issues cost the global economy approximately $1 trillion annually due to lost productivity. These numbers highlight the urgent need to address this issue head-on. The early signs are often there—whether in family, friends, or colleagues. Sometimes all it takes is for someone to ask, “How are you doing?” and truly listen. Providing a shoulder to lean on can make all the difference. Sadly, there’s still too much stigma around accepting that someone is battling depression. It’s a silent killer, and even if it doesn’t take a life, it can make living feel unbearable. Let’s also remember that work-life balance is not the same as stress. Enjoying your work means it’s not just about the hours, the weeks, or the deadlines. Stress at work is often more about being in the wrong job. While work-life balance can be a contributing factor, let’s not single it out as the sole reason for professional stress. Mental health is complex, but as individuals and organizations, we have a role to play in creating supportive environments every single day.
