“Be like a tree laden with fruit!” My grandfather first said this to me when I was five years old. Over the years, I would hear him repeat this often. When he passed, and I was slightly older, I asked my father what my grandpa had meant. Dad said, “A tree full of fruit will always bend low”. “When you have power, money and fame, you should make sure you are like that tree. Be humble. Don’t let arrogance corrupt your soul” Rata Tata was like that symbolic tree. He used his power, money and fame to add value to society and to people. Not just in India, but across the globe. Today that tree has fallen! Upon the morrow, we will awaken to a world where a legend once walked. I am sure he will be remembered with love in his passing as much as was when he was alive. And that is something not too many people can lay claim to. Ratan Tata’s life was a shining example of how to live, and how to do business. I hope one day to be able to emulate some of his humility; some of his grace. In life, and in the inevitable beyond. RIP, dear Ratan Tata.
