More particularly, it urged for specialized extension and investment services in the segment, without which it is difficult to improve the productivity of smallholders and the quality of tea produced by them. #ThePowerOfCooperatives: Dewi Sri is a female farming group (FFG) in Bukit Indah village, Lamandau district, Central Kalimantan, Indonesia. The group consists of 34 members, most of whose husbands have already participated in the farmer field schools conducted by Solidaridad. 👨🌾 🌴 And now, in line with our efforts to promote gender inclusion, the members of Dewi Sri are also being supported with training on the principles and techniques of integrated agriculture, regenerative farming, and organic land management. Knowledge on organic fertilizers, their utility, and their production, is also being shared with the women. ✅ 💚 As a follow-up to these activities, the group agreed to establish a 0.5-hectare demonstration plot, located adjacent to an oil palm plantation, which will serve as a practice area for regenerative agriculture. In an effort to promote sustainable tea cultivation practices and minimize the usage of harmful chemicals, the Tea Board Of India, Solidaridad, All Assam Small Tea Growers' Association and All Bodoland Small Tea Growers' Association have come together to organize awareness camps in various zones of Assam. 🌱 🤝 💡 These camps have been aimed to educate tea farmers on the safe usage of approved chemicals and explore alternatives to traditional pesticides. B3 waste refers to toxic, hazardous and/or hard-to-decompose materials which are often found aplenty in and around oil palm plantations—from plastic packaging used for pesticides and fertilizers, to cigarette stubs, drinking bottles, and more. ❌ For farmers following sustainability certification processes, knowledge on managing B3 waste is a must, especially since it constitutes one of the major assessment aspects in sustainability certification. 💡 ✔️ Independent farmers assisted by Solidaridad under the second phase of the NISCOPS project in Indonesia receive a special session on B3 waste and its management. The session features explanations and demonstrations on how to handle, store, and dispose B3 waste properly, so as not to pollute the environment and not endanger health. Solidaridad hosted a thought-provoking panel discussion at the Fi India event, "Good Food – Good Health: Towards Sustainable Food and Supply Chain Management” on 25 September 2024. 🌿 The discussion at the event highlighted key issues around sustainable practices in the food value chain, technological advancements in food processing, evolving consumer preferences for healthier and sustainable products, and the essential role of partnerships in fostering sustainable food systems. 👨🌾 👩🌾 The panel featured experts such as Dr. Nita Khandekar (Former Director, ICAR-IISR, Indore, Principal Scientist and Head of the Center of Excellence on Soybean Processing and Utilization, ICAR-CIAE, Bhopal), Sumit Agarwal (Managing Director, Bio Nutrient, Bhopal), and Rajesh Tiwari (Managing Director, Tejaswani Herbs and Herbals Products). 💡 🗣️ Speaking at the event, Dr. Suresh Motwani (General Manager, Solidaridad) shared insights into Solidaridad's initiatives such as fair trade and sustainability certifications.
