A heartfelt experience at the #SBTS hosted by Legal Operators. Looking forward to next year! #summitbythesea2024
Summit by the Sea has always had a special place in my heart. Ever since Colin S. McCarthy and I put together year 1 in Half Moon Bay, I’ve looked forward to connecting with our Legal Operators community to learn and share. We had some great sessions this week in San Diego (D. Casey Flaherty and John McNamara were both spectacular), but no session had more of an impact on me than “Untold Stories” by Anne Graue and Fatima Hussain, LL.M. They were courageous in their delivery and inspiring in their message. Best of all, after having been connected with them both on this platform for years, it was a delight to meet them in person and hear more about their journey. Wishing everyone safe travels home. Until we meet again… #legaloperations #courage #people #legaltech #sbts2024

What a fantastic start to the Summit by the Sea '24 hosted by Legal Operators! 🏌️♂️⛳️ Akshay Verma and Tyler Finn from our team engaged in a lively golf session, bringing together legal leaders for some friendly competition amidst the stunning backdrop of La Jolla. The conversations were as dynamic as the game, setting the stage for an engaging summit. The evening continued with an exclusive kick-off dinner hosted with Brightflag. It was a night of great food and insightful discussions that set the perfect tone for the days ahead. Thanks to everyone who joined us—it’s just the beginning of an exciting summit! #SpotDraft #SummitByTheSea24 #Networking #LegalTech

Who Should the GC Report To? This topic has sparked widespread debate, and last week, we explored it during our webinar with In-House Connect. Here’s what our panelists think: “It’s not just about the title or who you report to, it's rather about the impact you can have within the company. Ideally, the GC should report to the CEO to ensure their strategic influence is maximized, but what matters most is the relationship with the person you report to and your ability to drive key initiatives.” ~ Akshay Verma "Reporting to the CEO or COO can be acceptable in certain circumstances, but it’s crucial that the GC has a seat at the executive table and direct access to the board." ~ Eleanor Lacey “I’ve reported to both the CEO and CFO in different roles, and while reporting to the CEO provides more direct influence, reporting to the CFO can work if there’s a strong working relationship and mutual respect. The key is ensuring that the GC has the authority and access needed to fulfill their role effectively.” ~ Mark Kahn "The ideal reporting line for a GC is to the CEO, especially as the company grows and the legal function becomes more strategic.
