India took a major step towards its clean energy goals in the latest budget announcement. Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman unveiled key policies designed to accelerate the country's transition to renewable energy sources and curb emissions. This includes a new taxonomy for climate finance to unlock capital for green projects, a roadmap for transitioning high-emission industries towards carbon markets, and a push for pumped hydro storage to address the intermittency of renewable energy. "While the increase in basic customs duty on glass imports will result in higher input costs for domestic power producers in the short term, this is a necessary long-term measure to strengthen the domestic supply chain, especially given our ambitious goal of achieving 50 GW of renewable energy annually,” said Shashank Sharma, Founder, Chairman & CEO of Sunsure Energy. Mr. Sharma also lauded the success of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, a scheme promoting rooftop solar installations, calling it a "game-changer" for bringing clean energy to millions. We are proud to announce the commencement of power supply to Merino Group, a global leader in high-pressure laminates, furniture, and surface solutions. Under a new open access solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) between the companies, Sunsure will be supplying 10 million units of green energy annually to Merino’s Hapur plant. This partnership will enable Merino to increase its total renewable energy consumption for their plant operations to 60%. Sunsure is immensely proud to announce itself the decarbonization partner for Merino Industries. The PPA signed earlier this year builds upon the solar rooftop project constructed and delivered by Sunsure in May 2020, for their Hapur plant. Since 2016, Sunsure has partnered with Merino Industries on projects totaling over 15 MW, working towards our vision of becoming long-term decarbonization partners across industries in India. A huge shoutout to Merino’s team for its strong commitment to Social Responsibility, Good Governance, and Environmental Sustainability!
