Memories of the 2023 wrestlers' protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar are still fresh in the minds of people of Julana, an Assembly constituency in Haryana's Jind district which, along with the rest of the state, votes on 5 October. On the ballot, representing the Congress party, is Vinesh Phogat — one of India's most celebrated sportspersons and the Olympian wrestler who at the forefront of the protests against BJP's Brij Bhushan Singh. Singh was accused of sexually harassing multiple women players while he was the Chief of the Wrestling Federation of India. Phogat's election campaign, almost a year after the protests, rests on her fight against Brij Bhushan and her promise to create a safer environment for women in sports.
