CEB alumnus Dr Tony Gilliam MBE (PhD, 1961) returned to the department to unveil a plaque commemorating his donation in honour of fellow alumnus M.M. Sharma FRS (PhD, 1964). Dr Gilliam was welcomed by Head of Department Clemens Kaminski, and gave a short speech to current staff & students about his time studying Chemical Engineering at Cambridge. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr Gilliam for his generous donation to CEB!

Celebrating the Winners of the World Water Day Ideation Challenge 2024!   We're thrilled to announce the winners of the World Water Day Ideation Challenge 2024, jointly organized by L&T EduTech and L&T Construction Water and Effluent Treatment IC.   With 135 teams from Engineering colleges & GETs/PGETs of L&T across India participating, the competition was fierce, showcasing groundbreaking ideas to address water challenges. Following rigorous evaluation rounds, 4 exceptional teams made it to the grand finale at L&T Construction Chennai HQ on March 22nd - World Water Day.   After intense evaluation by experts from L&T EduTech, L&T WET IC, and esteemed professors from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and Anna University Chennai, we proudly present the top 3 teams:   First Position: Sahyadri Rangers from Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Mumbai Second Position: The Guardians from WET IC, L&T Construction, Chennai Third Position: The Aqua Saver from Panimalar Engineering College Special Commendation: Team Sparkks from Odisha University of Technology and Research, Odisha   Congratulations to all participants and winners for their innovative solutions ranging from treatment technologies to AI-powered management systems, paving the way for water neutrality and sustainability. Following a grand performance at the International #MathOlympiad, please congratulate the Indian team for a fantastic performance at the International Chemistry Olympiad held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. 1 gold for Devesh Bhaiya (Jalgaon), 2 silvers: Avaneesh Bansal (Kota) and Harshin Posina (Hyderabad) and 1 bronze to Kashyap Khandelwal (Mumbai). ICT Mumbai’s SATHI FOUNDATION (Mumbai Biocluster) Awarded Rs. 60 Crore for Accelerating Biopharmaceutical Innovation In a significant boost to India's biopharmaceutical ecosystem, the Department of Science and Technology's (DST) SATHI initiative has granted Rs. 60 Crore (Approx. $7 Million) to the Mumbai Biocluster. Comprising esteemed institutions such as ICT Mumbai, IIT Bombay, TIFR, ACTREC, and Khalsa College, Mumbai, the biocluster aims to revolutionize drug development in the country. Led by ICT Mumbai's Vice Chancellor Prof. AB Pandit and Dr. Ratnesh Jain, the Principle Investigator of the DST-SATHI project, the Mumbai Biocluster is set to catalyze innovation in biopharmaceuticals. Supported by Dr. Prasanna Venkatraman from ACTREC, Dr. Pratiksha Palahe from Khalsa College, Prof Sudipta Maiti from TIFR, and Prof. Rohit Srivastava from IIT Bombay, the collaborative effort will accelerate the development of critical therapies for diseases like cancer, rare diseases, and infectious diseases. The biocluster will serve as an accelerator for startups, academia, MSMEs, and industries, providing state-of-the-art infrastructure and expertise for faster development of biopharmaceutical products. With a focus on monoclonal antibodies, vaccines, mRNA technology, and cell & gene therapy, the facility will address key challenges faced during technology scale-up and validation in the drug development phase. Central to the biocluster's mission is the provision of a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) facility, enabling drug development at an affordable cost. By bridging the gap between research and commercialization, the Mumbai Biocluster aims to propel India to the forefront of biopharmaceutical innovation, driving economic growth and improving healthcare outcomes.
