India's employment challenge isn't just about job creation—it’s about job readiness. Every year, 1.2 crore people enter the workforce, but only 80–90 lakh jobs are created, leaving a 30–40 lakh deficit annually. The bigger issue? A massive skill mismatch. Only 3.7% of India's workforce has formal vocational training, compared to 52% in the US, 80% in Japan, and 96% in South Korea. Programmes like the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme aimed to train 50 lakh apprentices by 2020, but by 2022, only 20 lakh had been trained.
