UNDP brought together key stakeholders for a powerful discussion on the role of leadership in driving institutional change and advancing women’s empowerment in Iraq’s security sector. With active participation from representatives of the Ministry of Defense (MOD) and the National Directorate of Iraqi Women at COMSEC, the event created a space for open dialogue about the vital contributions of women in security institutions. Participants shared real experiences, shedding light on both the barriers they face, and the progress being made. The MOD’s positive steps toward increasing women’s engagement in the sector were highlighted, offering concrete examples of change in action. The session concluded with a shared commitment to a comprehensive roadmap—one that prioritizes inclusive policies, stronger institutional systems, and a people-centered approach to professional development. By ensuring that women have a seat at the table in shaping Iraq’s security landscape, this discussion marks another step toward a more inclusive and effective future.
