Kerecis is pioneering the use of fish skin and fatty-acids in the cellular therapy and regenerative medicine market.
About us
Kerecis was founded by Fertram Sigurjonsson around the concept of using fish skin to heal damaged tissue. The company is pioneering the use of fish skin and fatty acids in the globally expanding cellular therapy and regenerative medicine market. The fatty-acid rich (including Omega3) products from the company's patented technologies enable the body to regenerate tissues, rather than simply repair them and risk scarring. The Kerecis products are used to regenerate tissue in trauma and chronic wounds such as burns and diabetic wounds. Kerecis is also developing products for areas such as oral surgery, plastic surgery and neurological applications. The vision of Kerecis is to extend human life by supporting the body’s own ability to regenerate. The Kerecis mission is to become the world leader in regenerating damage of the human body by sustainably harnessing nature’s own remedies. In August 2023 Kerecis became Iceland’s first Unicorn when it sold to the Danish company Coloplast for $1.3 Billion.

Unveiling the Odinn Trial, revolutionary research regarding severe diabetic wounds and tissue damage.📰🧑⚕️ Named after the “all father” of Norse mythology, the Odinn Trial is the first large-scale RCT focused on the treatment of notoriously hard-to-heal UT-Grade 2 and 3 diabetic foot ulcers. Published in the New England Journal of Medicine Evidence, the most extensive study in the discipline offers unprecedented insights into the effective management of these complex wounds. At the primary endpoint, fish skin grafts healed significantly more UT-Grade 2 and 3 DFUs than the SOC, 44.0% v. 26.4% (p<0.001) 🔗Learn more: https://bit.ly/4eSP6G7 🔗View the full study: https://bit.ly/3TX1kFL #Kerecis #MedicalResearch #DFU #HowWeHeal

‘Kerecis Moments’ aren’t just for our patients and doctors – they motivate our staff daily!🐟 For our videographer Jon Pall, it was a visit from Petur Oddsson to our Reykjavik office. Usually a stoic character, the former electrician was energetic and thankful for the dedication of our staff. He came to see us immediately after being discharged from the hospital, where a serious electrical accident left him for more than six months. #KerecisMoment #Healing #OurWhy #HowWeHeal
