AKRAN Intellectual Property's Vincenzo Iaia had the privilege of moderating a panel at the ECTA (official) Supervisory Board and Committee Meetings in Seville last week. Entitled "Make up or break up: AI and IP, the future of our profession", the panel of experts (Renato Leite Monteiro, Maria Fernandez Marques Katleen Gabriels and Vincenzo Cardarelli) discussed the role of AI in the IP and legal profession in general. Vincenzo is a Postdoctoral Researcher and member of the Innovation Law and Ethics Observatory (ILEO) at Luiss Guido Carli University University and Of Counsel at AKRAN Intellectual Property. #intellectualproperty #artificialintelligence #IPlawyer

Last week we welcomed the EUIPO - European Union Intellectual Property Office to our office in Rome and learned, among other things, how the Office is empowering tools based on #AI to bring benefits to IP users. 3 hours of discussions, insights and training with Elena Pastor and Vito Pati aimed at enhancing communication with #EUIPO, providing feedback on the Office’s workflow, adopting new tools to reduce Office Actions and streamline application procedures. We are very thankful for the time and effort that the EUIPO - European Union Intellectual Property Office Key Account Teamam dedicated to our paralegals and attorneys.

The accession of #Qatar to the World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO administered Madrid Protocol, which entered into force on August 3, 2024, is welcome news to brand owners and their IP attorneys. Whilst the individual fee for extending an International Trademark Registration to Qatar is a hefty 1.127 Swiss francs per international class of goods/services, brand owners and practitioners are nevertheless expected to benefit greatly from the simplified administrative procedures. Qatar has become the fourth country in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) alongside Bahrain (2005), Oman (2007) and the UAE (2021) to join the Madrid Protocol. Hopefully Kuwait and Saudi Arabia will follow suit. #intellectualproperty #madridprotocol
