𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝐭𝐡 - 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐥𝐨𝐭𝐡 𝐃𝐚𝐲 🦥 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐥𝐨𝐭𝐡 𝐃𝐚𝐲 was created in November 2010 to help people learn more about these shy, quiet creatures and to raise awareness about their extinction, as has already happened with several sloth species. Slowness, contrary to popular belief, is the secret of sloths. Their slow metabolism and extremely controlled movements (a sloth travels 250 meters in an hour) are not accidental but aimed precisely at survival: in this way they can conserve energy, keep heat loss under control at all times, and thermoregulate themselves. Thrombosis is the third most common cardiovascular disease and comprises two interconnected conditions: pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis. It is caused by the presence of a thrombus (blood clot) in an artery or vein. Although thrombosis is a very serious disease, it is often easily preventable.
