👾 How can political advertisement be used to spread #disinformation? 🗳 During the last elections in Hungary, Political Capital partnered with Lakmusz (fact-checkers) and Mérték (media monitor) on a project to uncover, analyse debunk, and research paid disinformation on online platforms. 💻 The project "the marketplace of (false) ideas" discovered that more than half of the money spent on political ads in Hungary was used to spread hostile narratives and disinformation. The findings later showed that more than one third of the population adopted these narratives. 📝 The analysis and results of the project were published in a report, which also provided policy recommendations for EU and local authorities, as well as online platforms. The report was quoted in 150+ media articles was able to generate discussion on the political level in the country. 🎥 Peter Kreko PhD., the Project Manager of the initiative tells us more about the project in this interview 🔗 You can read and download the report here: https://lnkd.in/dN9i5t6k

🎙️ New Podcast Episode: Exposing 'Operation Overload' Episode 4 of “Decoding Disinformation” dives deep into ‘Operation Overload’, a large-scale disinformation campaign that targeted journalists and fact-checkers with fake content aligned with a pro-Russian agenda. This operation involved creating and distributing fabricated assets—images, videos, and screenshots—designed to look credible and relevant to the news cycle. The content was spread through channels like emails, Telegram, and X, with a specific focus on anti-Ukraine and anti-France narratives in the context of the Olympic Games. The primary goal? To drain the time and resources of fact-checkers and journalists while attempting to shape public opinion. 🌍 In this episode, we’re joined by Guillaume Kuster, co-founder and CEO of Check First, who led the investigation that exposed this sophisticated disinformation campaign. 🎧 Tune in to gain insights into how this operation was uncovered and what it means for the future of fact-checking and journalism: https://buff.ly/4g4Pva3 This podcast has been produced with the support of the European Media & Information Fund (EMIF) #Disinformation #Journalism #FactChecking #OperationOverload #Podcast
