This week Italfarmaco is participating in two major events shaping the future of rare disease research and orphan drug development—the IRDiRC Conference and RE(ACT) Congress 2025, held jointly by the BLACKSWAN Foundation and the International Rare Diseases Research Consortium (IRDiRC) in Brussels from March 5th to 7th. At IRDiRC, our Patient Advocacy Lead Rare Diseases Samantha Parker serves as Vice-Chair and as a member of the Company Committee, engaging with regulatory agencies, industry leaders, and patient advocacy groups to accelerate rare disease drug development and foster global collaboration in research. During the RE(ACT) Congress, she will present an ongoing retrospective study analyzing orphan drugs designated by the FDA & EMA in 2017 to assess success rates, clinical progression, and key factors influencing orphan drug development. These data-driven insights aim to support more efficient drug development pathways and reduce investment risks, helping to bring much-needed therapies to rare disease patients. Both conferences serve as crucial platforms for scientific exchange, collaboration, and policy shaping, bringing together global experts committed to driving innovation in rare disease treatment.
