A new day, a new experience in Messina for the 20 international buyers participating in “Meet Tourism Stretto di Messina” fam trip organized by the Municipalities of Messina and Reggio Calabria, together with ItaliAbsolutely. After admiring the artworks housed in the Regional Museum of Messina and being received by the Mayor in his office and in the Hall of Flags, they went on to enjoy some real Sicilian gelato. They then climbed to Forte Cavalli, one of the 24 forts that are part of the entrenched camp of Messina that were built between 1883 and 1902. The day concluded with a visit to the Sanctuary of Christ the King, followed by dinner in a local restaurant by the sea where the queen of the evening was the local Birra dello Stretto beer. The second edition of "Meet Tourism", organized by the Municipalities of Messina and Reggio Calabria in collaboration with ItaliAbsolutely, is embracing both sides of the Strait: Messina and Reggio Calabria. The guests were greeted by the Sicilian regional tourism councillor Elvira Amata, the mayor of Messina Federico Basile, Vincenzo Caruso, the tourism councillor of Reggio Calabria, and the sports councillor Massimo Finocchiaro. Speakers included Alberto D'Alessandro from Team Europe Direct and Pietrangelo Pettenò from Medfort, focusing on the promotion of the fortifications of the Strait and the route of Ulysses. The international buyers at the second edition of "Meet Tourism," organized by the Municipalities of Messina and Reggio Calabria together with ItaliAbsolutely, experienced local fishing traditions during their stay in Reggio Calabria. From a visit to the Ganzirri Lakes to see how calms are cultivated they then took an exciting trip in a felucca fishing boat where local fishermen showed them the traditional method for catching swordfish.
