This question is very common among our clients from the UK and the US. In Italy, these additional salaries are a standard part of the compensation package, not an extra bonus. Moreover, I know that in the UK and US, it’s normal to have a Professional Improvement Plan (PIP), where an employee is given instructions to improve their performance. If, at the end of this period (usually six months), the performance is not up to the expected level, termination might be one solution. However, this concept of a PIP does not exist in Italy.
