We are excited to have participated to the 50th European Society for Artificial Organs Congress in the beautiful Aachen, Germany. ESAO is a long-life conference reuniting clinicians, scientists and engineers who spend their research work on the theme of life support with (bio)artificial devices. During the conference, our 1st year PhD student Giulia Gamberini presented her research in a “for dummies” way at the pitch session organized in the Young ESAO (yESAO) pre-congress. In addition, she held a podium presentation on a “PERSONALIZED 3D ANATOMICAL MODEL FOR PULMONARY SURGERY” in the “PRECLINICAL AND CLINICAL RESEARCH IN LUNG SUPPORT” session. The work is co-authored by Dr. Selene Tognarelli and Prof. Arianna Menciassi. Moreover, our 3rd year PhD student Simone Onorati presented well-received preliminary results on a “WIRELESS-CONTROLLED BIDIRECTIONAL PUMPING SYSTEM FOR ARTIFICIAL ORGANS WITH HYDRAULIC ACTUATION” in a Poster session, anticipated by a 3-minute “Rapid Fire”. The work is co-authored by Michele Ibrahimi, Federica Semproni, Stefano Pane, Dr. Veronica Iacovacci and Prof. Arianna Menciassi. Giulia and Simone would like to express a heartful acknowledgement to all the co-authors, which shaped to the best our contributions. The Fifty ESAO Congress abstracts can be read in Open Access at https://lnkd.in/e8zWy824 (ours at pages 458 and 542 of the PDF issue).

👏 We are pleased to announce that Veronica Iacovacci, researcher-RTDB in the Surgical Robotics and Allied Technologies Area, has been awarded the prestigious European Research Council #ERC Grant for her pioneering project I-BOT! 🔬 I-BOT aims at developing the first generation of implantable microrobots. These tiny machine will not only be able to navigate in the body to get into hard-to-reach areas of the human body. They will be able to controllably morph their shape in response to ultrasound and magnetic simuli to exert force on tissue, interact on them and act as implants on the long term. This ERC-funded research represents a major leap forward in medical robotics, addressing significant challenges in non-invasive medical procedures. Congratulations to Veronica Iacovacci for this remarkable achievement!! 📰 Insights about the project on Magazine of Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna: https://lnkd.in/dGr9kixs #ERCGrant #Innovation #MedicalRobotics #IBOT #MedicalTechnology #Microrobotics #HealthcareInnovation
