We’re excited to announce that CMR Surgical has been granted U.S. FDA Marketing Authorization for the use of #Versius in Cholecystectomy. The FDA marketing authorization of #Versius is a significant milestone, with Versius being the first multi-port, soft tissue general surgical Robotic Assisted Surgical Device (RASD) to successfully be authorized through FDA’s De Novo application process. Versius is a RASD intended to assist in the precise and accurate control of Versius Surgical endoscopic instruments and is indicated in the U.S. for adult patients 22 years of age and older, eligible for soft tissue minimal access surgery, for cholecystectomy. Congratulations to Hospital Universitari de Bellvitge in Barcelona, Spain who have completed their first cases using #Versius! The first surgery performed with #Versius at the hospital was a hysterectomy for a fibroid-affected uterus, carried out by Head of the Gynaecology Department at Hospital Universitari de Bellvitge and President of the Spanish Group of Gynaecological Surgery (GERGIN), Dr Jordi Ponce Sebastia and the wider gynaecology team. The versatile and portable design of #Versius will allow the system to be easily moved between the hospital's 33 operating theatres, enabling high utilisation of the system. At Hospital Universitari de Bellvitge, #Versius will initially be used to perform gynaecology and urology surgery before expanding into a wider multispecialty robotic surgery programme. Congratulations again to the entire team at Hospital Universitari de Bellvitge - we look forward to watching your robotic surgery programme continue to flourish with #Versius! #CMRSurgical #TransformingSurgery

"You're giving [surgeons] back an instrument that they're used to using laparoscopically and therefore you give them the familiarity, and with that, comes confidence." Our Chief Medical Officer and Co-Founder, Dr Mark Slack shares how the Ultrasonic Dissector—our first advanced energy instrument providing surgeons with a new option for haemostatic coagulation and simultaneous cutting—can support surgeons through more complex surgical procedures with #Versius. Rufus Quinn, aged 7, has become the first child in London to successfully undergo an operation using a new Versius robotic system at Evelina London. The Versius system contains four flexible arms designed to mimic human joints. During an operation, a surgeon controls these arms on a console. Any movements made by the surgeon are translated into smaller, more precise motions in the robot’s arms. Although Versius is regularly used for adult surgeries, Rufus’ operation was part of a new clinical trial to test the use of this robotic system on children. It is hoped Versius will speed up patient recovery times and make complex operations less tiring for surgeons. #TeamGSTT #RoboticSurgery #EvelinaLondon
