  • ♻️ A Circular Future is Possible—But We Need Stronger Policies! 🌍 The EU stands at a crossroads. With six planetary boundaries already breached, our approach to resource use must change. The Circular Economy Act (CEA) could be the game-changer—if done right. 🔄 The circularity rate is stagnating while secondary raw materials remain more expensive than virgin ones. Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) isn’t driving better product design, and bio-waste is still poorly managed. The EU must rethink its approach. ⚖️ Strategic resource use needs to be smarter. Strengthening the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and ensuring fair competition for secondary raw materials will help break our dependency on virgin imports. Safety and health must come first, with stricter controls on toxic chemicals in consumer goods and imported recyclates. 🚯 Waste reduction targets need to be ambitious. A zero-landfilling goal for untreated waste by 2030 and mandatory sorting of mixed waste are crucial to keep valuable materials in circulation. EPR rules must go beyond waste management and actively support reuse and repair systems. ✍️ As Aline Maigret, Dorota Napierska, PhD, Janek Vähk, and the team at Zero Waste Europe highlight, the Circular Economy Act should not be a missed opportunity. The EU must commit to a truly circular, resilient economy. 🔗 Will policymakers step up? Let’s discuss!
