Honoured to take part in the official launch of the EIT Community Hub Spain in Madrid! This milestone marks a new chapter in strengthening the EIT Community’s presence in Spain, unlocking greater opportunities for local innovators, entrepreneurs, and learners to thrive within Europe’s largest innovation network. At the event, EIT Director Martin Kern had the pleasure of meeting Teresa Riesgo, Secretary General for Innovation at the Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades, and José Moisés Martín Carretero, Director General of @CDTI_innovacion, as well as with Elisa Rivera Mendoza —a leading voice in Spain’s green and education transitions. Our discussions covered the future of the EU Framework Programme (FP10), strengthening regional innovation ecosystems, and the EIT’s new flagship: the Regional Innovation Booster. We also discussed the EIT’s Strategy for the EU Outermost Regions—the first ever adopted by an EU institution—which is helping unlock innovation potential in places like the Canary Islands. With the launch of this Hub, we reaffirm our commitment to connecting Spain’s vibrant innovation ecosystem to European opportunities in key areas like deep tech, energy, health, and climate. EIT Governing Board convened in Bucharest last week. Framed within the EIT’s contribution to the EU competitiveness compass, the Board explored strategic priorities, including the EIT's role in the Union of Skills, and discussed further simplification measures to boost the EIT’s impact. A highlight of the meeting was the visit to Prime Batteries Technology🔋, a Romanian company transforming the lithium-ion battery sector. Backed by EIT InnoEnergy, Prime Batteries has rapidly grown into a €1 billion+ company, supplying the largest energy storage capacity in Europe.
