In Pavia, Italy, Renesas joined the District of Microelectronics (Distretto di Microelettronica), a partnership between the University of Pavia (Università di Pavia) and microelectronics companies with a mission to increase the number of students interested in the field and connect them with career opportunities. When they hosted the 6th Annual University & Students Meet Electronic Companies event, Renesas team joined in to meet with University of Pavia - Department of Electrical, Computer and Biomedical Engineering students and give live demos on EV charging stations and Matter Connectivity. Sabino Merlo, Full Professor and Vice President of the District of Microelectronics Committee, commented on the importance of the event and Renesas’ participation for the first time. "There is a big need to have young people, and their families understand that a career in the field of electronics engineering guarantees good job opportunities, and it helps the growth of the nation. Almost ten years ago I was at Arvedi Laboratory of Non-Invasive Diagnostic to perform my first 3D scan of a historical violin of the Museo del Violino in Cremona (Italy). Thanks to the recent developments of 3D printing technology it was now possible to print in high resolution the famous Stradivari Cremonese 1715! Saturday, the exhibition #Str3Dvari was inaugurated, and now the 3D printing of the violin is a permanent part of the museum tour and can be observed and touched by the visitors. I'm delighted to announce that Sara Rajabzadeh successfully defended her Master's thesis in #ComputerEngineering on 26th September, 2024, under my supervision here at the Università degli Studi di Pavia. Her research focused on classifying #tillage operations in cultivated fields using optical satellite remote sensing data from Sentinel-2. The case study was conducted on #farmland in the Indo-Gangetic Plain, and her work led to assessing the information content of each utilised feature on the #classificationaccuracy, as well as the effectiveness of various classification strategies including classical and #machinelearning-based. This led to significant improvements in terms of computational cost of the #mapping procedure, while at the same time maintaining high standards of classification quality. Sara's work is a significant contribution to the NODES - Nord Ovest Digitale E Sostenibile project, where monitoring agricultural practices supports a more comprehensive certification of agricultural and food products. It will be interesting to share these findings with the students of the #AgriFoodSustainability MSc course, soon to start. As her supervisor, and with the valuable support of our PostDoc Jit Mukherjee here at the University of Pavia - Department of Electrical, Computer and Biomedical Engineering, I am proud of Sara's achievements and the potential impact of her research.
