🌲 We need nature recovery – Nature guide launch ‘Nature and Biodiversity: a guide for development’ – by Environmental Industries Commission (EIC) including Ramboll as a contributing author – has launched. It is designed to bring together all nature policies to help non-nature professionals involved with development projects. 📰 In the last few years, an array of policies and regulations related to nature, biodiversity and green infrastructure have been introduced in the UK market. 🤯 Nature as a topic is complex; there is no singular metric, as there is for climate with carbon. As a result, the policies and regulations are complex and can be intimidating too. The guide is a holistic approach to nature and biodiversity. By providing a comprehensive overview, the guide aims to help readers achieve their key aims and objectives in a nature-positive way. 👷♀️ Who is this for? We do this by conducting environmental analyses that help companies and governments understand and reduce their impact on the environment.   The theme of this year's International Biodiversity Day is ‘From Agreement to Action: Rebuilding Biodiversity’. 📣 Exciting news! The European Parliament has just passed a groundbreaking Nature Restoration Law, aiming to restore 20% of the EU's land and seas by 2030. 🇪🇺 But what could restoring 20% of Europe's land and seas look like? 🌳 Reforestation & Afforestation: Planting over 3 billion trees across Europe to recover vast areas of deforested and degraded land. 🐸 Wetlands Restoration: Reviving over 1 million hectares of drained wetlands, to boost biodiversity, purify water and lock-in carbon. 🌍 Peatland Rehabilitation: Restoring 250,000 hectares of degraded peatlands, which could sequester ~10 million tonnes CO2 annually. 💧 River & Stream Rewilding: Restoring 25,000 km of European rivers to free-flowing conditions by 2030. 🐠 Marine Protected Areas Expansion: Increasing marine protected areas to cover 30% of Europe's seas, safeguarding marine biodiversity and supporting sustainable fisheries. 🌾 Sustainable Agriculture Practices: Converting 10 million hectares of farmland to organic farming practices by 2030, enhancing soil health, biodiversity and reducing chemical use. 🏡 Urban Green Spaces: Creating 15,000 hectares of urban green spaces by 2030 to improve air quality, biodiversity and the well-being of city dwellers across Europe. This new law marks a significant victory for nature, but it also provides an opportunity for all of us to step up and make a difference.
