About us
Family Nursing & Home Care (FNHC) is a Jersey charity committed to providing high quality, integrated nursing and home care in the community from birth to end of life. Our services touch the lives of more islanders than any other charitable organisation, helping children, their families, the sick, the elderly and the dying. We have teams of experienced and highly qualified nurses operating a range of services including, Health Visitors, School and Children’s Nursing, District and Specialist Nursing as well as Home Care. We are a forward-thinking, modern charity that has adapted in order to provide the services that islanders need today.

Today is World Diabetes Day (WDD), the world’s largest diabetes awareness campaign reaching a global audience of over 1 billion people in over 160 countries. It is marked every year on 14 November, the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, who co-discovered insulin along with Charles Best in 1922. This year the focus is on putting wellbeing at the heart of diabetes care. In 2022, there were 4,840 people known to be living with diabetes in Jersey (likely a 20% underestimate) and predicted to be over 5,000 by 2036. It is described as a ‘hidden condition’ as it can’t be seen, but if left untreated or undiagnosed can cause serious harm. It can affect every part of your body. KNOW YOUR RISK Use this tool to help you find out your risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Scan the QR code to get started… This could be the most important thing you do today! Gilly’s Taiwan Cycle Update 🚴♀️ – Day 6 – Gilly has covered just over 300km so far, which is amazing especially with an initial delay due to a typhoon and unseasonably warm weather! If you would like to sponsor Gilly, please follow this link (below): https://lnkd.in/eiNCPHup During a little “break” from cycling, Gilly embarked on a trek at 4am to watch the sunrise at the top of a mountain in Alishan National Forest Recreation Area, followed by a 60km ride down the mountain (with an unexpected amount of uphill cycling on the downhill journey.) Further updates to follow as the ride continues 🚴♀️

🚴♀️🚴♀️Gilly’s Taiwan Cycle Challenge - Wednesday 30/10/2024 – we’ve arrived!! 🚴♀️🚴♀️ "Travel wise all went smoothly and check through customs uneventful. We won hotel vouchers in a tourist lucky draw on landing, bonus! Hotel lovely, staff friendly but I think they think we’re mad! Wandered around town yesterday, explored market and side lanes. Amazing stuffed bao buns freshly baked from street vendor. We have had to delay our actual ride starting due to a rather large typhoon coming, due to make landfall tonight, Taiwan time and booked extra night in our current hotel. It is expected to impact/cover the whole of the country! Bit concerning 😳. Hope to be able to set off Friday but may be Saturday if still experiencing high winds. Today we have sorted the panniers ready and are putting the bikes back together and just watching the weather outside (a smidge wet but winds not up yet!). Warm and humid, oh and did I mention wet? So far, our area is experiencing 15mm rainfall per hour. Whole of island is shut down tomorrow (Thursday) due to typhoon so hoping not too much damage and we can leave Friday" 🤞🤞 Donate here in aid of FNHC: https://lnkd.in/eiNCPHup
