Congratulations to Andrea John on achieving IoD Chartered Director status 🎉 Commenting on this accreditation, Andrea said: “I’m really proud to become a Chartered Director, especially in such an active and progressive organisation as the IoD. Our Jersey branch has really accelerated its professionalism and support for business leaders on the Island in recent years, as well as members of our local business community who wish to develop their careers and skillsets. One thing that I’m particularly supportive of is the provision of work shadowing opportunities for those early in their career to help them better understand the life and skillset of a director. This also has a direct benefit to the local workforce and our economy. I’m looking forward to continuing my association with the IoD, and sharing these opportunities with my SBO colleagues.”

💡 Are you a Senior Executive or Board Member looking to increase your awareness of Information Security and Cyber Resilience? We've got a great breakfast event coming up on 5 November, where you will get to learn from two of the Jersey Financial Services Commission's Executive Directors and JCSC representatives about their experiences in managing the events of this year. Reserve your tickets now on the link in the comments below. In this unique breakfast event, we will have panellists on hand to provide real case studies and share key takeaways for Boards and senior executives to help increase their awareness of Information Security and Cyber Resilience. Attendees will get to learn from two of the JFSC’s Executive Directors why effective management of cyber risk is not just about a business’ technological controls and hear how they dispel the myth that the response to an incident is the IT department’s responsibility - and how it’s always a significant, whole organisation effort. Event Aims: An opportunity for senior executives to hear from the JFSC about their own experience in managing the events of this year, including sharing their own reflections and learning points, and how the JFSC is becoming even stronger and more resilient as a result. Take away valuable insight and recommendations that can apply to all boards and businesses in their own management of information security and cyber risks. · To raise awareness across the island that information and cyber security risks are real, business-impacting, and how for all businesses cyber incidents are a case of when, not if. · Act as a catalyst for board members and executives to become more aware of the risks to their own businesses from cyber threats and potential information security incidents. Ensure boards make putting in place robust incident response and business continuity plans a strategic priority, and why cyber should be a top enterprise risk for most businesses. · To see the JFSC lead by example in promoting transparency and openness across the island in discussing and managing these risks, both for the benefit of our financial services sector and the wider business community as a whole. Agenda: 08.30 : breakfast and networking 09.00 : Introduction by IoD Jersey Digital Sub-Committee Chair, Ian Webb 09.05 : Ian to introduce the panel 09.10 : Panel presentation by JFSC and JCSC representatives 09.45 : Panel questions and Q&A from the audience 10.20 : Sum-up, key learnings and takeaways 10.30: Event finish This event qualifies for 2 CPD points. The Institute of Directors encourages directors to embrace sustainability in its widest sense, to ensure responsible, resilient, and successful businesses. We do this by helping directors understand, commit to, and engage with sustainability as a driver of long-term profitability, linking sustainability with operational excellence and innovation to generate positive social as well as business impacts. The sustainable development goals provide a backdrop, specifically goal 5: Gender Equality, which addresses the gender pay gap, recognising the value of women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making across governments, businesses, and organisations. Gender Pay Gap reporting aligns with global frameworks like the UN Global Compact and the Global Reporting Initiative, which advocate for gender equality as part of sustainable business practices. The IoD Jersey branch is delighted to see that the States Assembly, whilst rejecting Deputy Andrews’ proposition, has recognised the work undertaken by the “Mind the Gap” community of which our Chair Alex Ruddy is a founding member, stating that the government is “backing” private sector innovation and “working with” the private sector to “assist companies to develop knowledge and processes to report effectively.” GPG reporting provides data that government and organisations can use to develop targeted policies. By supporting and working with organisations like IoD and the “Mind the Gap” community, the government is demonstrating its commitment to the sustainable development goals. The IoD Jersey branch, through its Sustainability and Corporate Governance subcommittees, will be focusing on sustainability and governance in 2025 and hopes to see engagement from Ministers and government officials. Alexandra Ruddy, Chair of the IoD Jersey branch, notes, “we are encouraged by the ongoing dialogue with Ministers and government in respect of matters impacting sustainable economic growth, and their recognition that gender equality should be a measurable and accountable goal for businesses.” Amy King, Chair of the Sustainability subcommittee, adds, “it is proven that businesses who report their gender pay gap are better positioned to meet international standards and contribute to the global effort to achieve more sustainable business practices. Aside from being the right thing to do, there is growing evidence to demonstrate that gender pay gap reporting can increase profitability. This is an area we will be exploring in more depth in 2025.”
