🏙️ The OneCity Explorer – A Game-Changer for Urban Development 🏙️ In December 2024, we launched the OneCity Explorer, an innovative interactive dashboard designed to provide a comprehensive view of the quality of life in Jamaica’s urban communities. This tool utilizes 14 key indicators—such as access to land, education, water, environmental hazards, and civic engagement—to assess how well urban areas are integrated into the social, economic, and infrastructural fabric of the region. It's more than just data! By identifying barriers to essential services and opportunities for inclusion, the OneCity Explorer was created to uncover solutions that pave the way for a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable urban future. As part of this effort, we're revamping our social media to be more engaging, dynamic, and interactive—making it easier for you to connect and explore. 🔍Check out the OneCity Explorer to see how data-driven insights can transform cities and drive positive impact: https://lnkd.in/e7nbhuvj 🎥 Want more? OneCity conducts research to inform data-driven climate change advocacy and enhance citizens’ rights to live in sustainable, climate resilient cities. OneCity Indicator #11 measures environmental hazard vulnerability, assessing flood risks, excessive heat, and air pollution. The OneCity Explorer allows users to analyse these hazards alongside other critical indicators, such as access to solid waste management, healthcare, and water services. 🌡️ As climate change intensifies, research on environmental data is increasingly important in designing appropriate solutions. 🔎 Access OneCity Explorer here: https://lnkd.in/e7nbhuvj Watch our presentation on #OneCityExplorer Indicator #11 Environmental Hazards here: https://lnkd.in/emQw9ZJa Swipe to the end for a tutorial on how to isolate the environmental hazards data on OneCity Explorer. 💡 How do you think we can better measure environmental hazards? Jamaica’s urban residents face persistent challenges, including substandard housing, crime, environmental degradation, and limited opportunities for civic and economic participation. The OneCity Project is committed to tackling these issues of urban inequalities by conducting research that informs urban planning, with the goal of building safer, more inclusive, and sustainable cities. Last December, we launched the OneCity Explorer: Access to Services and Quality of Life in Jamaican Cities— an interactive dashboard designed to assess how well urban communities are integrated into mainstream social, economic, and infrastructural systems. It features 14 indicators – including measures of access to land tenure, education, employment, water, electricity, environmental hazards, and civic engagement. The "OneCity Explorer” serves as a resource for policymakers and communities, enabling informed decision-making to drive equitable and sustainable urban governance. By highlighting barriers to accessing services and opportunities for inclusion, OneCity Explorer provides critical insights into the quality of life of Jamaica’s urban residents. 📲 Engage with the OneCity Explorer and discover how data-driven solutions can shape more inclusive cities! https://lnkd.in/e7nbhuvj Watch the full presentation on YouTube. https://lnkd.in/eNmBcqNG The OneCity Research Consortium is supported by Fondation Botnar and led by the Caribbean Policy Research Institute (CAPRI), in partnership with SlashRoots Foundation, Mona GeoInformatics Institute, and Fight for Peace. #OneCityJa #OneCityExplorer #InteractiveDashboard #OpenAccessData #DigitalTool #SpatialData #SpatialAnalysis #UrbanResearch #UrbanGovernance #RightToTheCity #UrbanIntegrationIndex #InclusiveDevelopment #UrbanPlanning #UrbanFuture #UrbanDevelopment #SustainableDevelopment #CityChangers #ModernCities #SustainableCities #ResilientCities #InclusiveCities #SafeCities #YouthPower #Integration #Innovation #Inclusion #UrbanInclusion #ActiveCitizenship #InclusiveCities

Beyond numbers—how do we measure what makes cities truly thrive? The Quality of Life Initiative is redefining urban metrics by putting people at the center. Instead of relying solely on traditional data, we’re integrating subjective well-being, lived experiences, and community insights into a dynamic, global tool that connects policy with human thriving. With insights from 500+ experts, 20+ global gatherings, and 10 pilot cities, we’ve refined a universal yet adaptable set of indicators. The result? A people-first framework that empowers local governments to make smarter, more impactful decisions—creating cities where everyone can thrive. Read more in our synthesis paper 👇

Accurate data is needed to inform policy decisions, and everyday citizens should have the right to access relevant socio-economic, spatial, and environmental data. Open data has the transformative power to ensure transparency, accessibility, and actionability, empowering urban residents to advocate for their rights, engage in governance, and address inequalities in shaping the cities of the future. At OneCity, we recognise the power of the right to data in achieving the right to the city. By providing data on critical indicators of access to services and quality of life, OneCity has the potential to help urban policymakers, planners, and advocates in advancing toward equitable, inclusive, and sustainable urban development. What’s one way that open data could make your community better? How has the right to access data (or lack thereof) impacted you? Share your ideas below!
