We successfully concluded our seventh and final Inspirational Insights talk for ifada 5.0, titled "Corporate Venture Insights: Lessons from Hikma Ventures & Ahli Fintech." In this engaging and informative session, we had the privilege of hearing from Lana Ghanem, Managing Director at Hikma Ventures, and Ghassan Muasher, CEO of Ahli Fintech, as they shared their insights into the world of Corporate Venture Capital (CVC). What truly elevated the discussion was the moderation by Aboudi Al-Qattan, Principal at DASH Ventures. Aboudi's expertise and ability to foster a conversational atmosphere were instrumental in guiding the dialogue, making complex topics accessible and engaging for all fellows and alumni. Through Aboudi’s smooth facilitation, Lana and Ghassan explored the strategic motivations behind their CVC initiatives, discussing how they navigate the balance between financial goals and the need for innovation in their respective sectors. The session was structured to encourage open dialogue, allowing the speakers to share unique challenges and opportunities within FinTech and digital health while Aboudi ensured that related questions and ideas flowed seamlessly throughout the conversation. The speakers also discussed the evolution of their investment strategies and the impact of technological advancements—particularly artificial intelligence—on enhancing patient-doctor interactions and driving innovation in healthcare as well as the banking sector. This final session not only encapsulated the key insights and learnings from ifada 5.0 but also delivered actionable guidance for aspiring entrepreneurs navigating the venture capital landscape. As we wrap up ifada 5.0, we reflect on the past five months filled with growth, learning, and collaboration. Reem guided a dynamic discussion with our guest speaker, Seth Levine, founder of Foundry and co-founder of GoodBread, who shared his extensive entrepreneurial experience and insights. The heart of our discussion revolved around the exploration of impact investing and Alfanar Venture Philanthropy's crucial role in empowering social enterprises to drive sustainable change and move towards independence from donor funding. With a history spanning over two decades, Alfanar remains steadfast in its commitment to uplifting visionary entrepreneurs dedicated to creating inclusive futures for marginalized communities, specifically women, youth, and children. Our speakers, Suha Abdul Rahim and Michelle Mouracade, shared invaluable insights. Suha Abdul Rahim, serving as Alfanar's Country Director for Jordan & Palestine, focuses on nurturing innovative social enterprises dedicated to addressing societal challenges and creating opportunities for underserved communities. Meanwhile, Michelle Mouracade, serving as the Head of Investor Relations, Impact & Operations at Anara Impact Capital (a subsidiary of Alfanar), highlighted the organization's upcoming initiatives. Anara Impact Capital is in the process of creating a USD 50 million regional impact investment fund aimed at delivering attractive commercial returns for investors while enhancing significant and measurable social and environmental impact, with a particular emphasis on gender-lens investing. This fund seeks to address financial gaps by investing in impactful enterprises and providing technical assistance support and grants to facilitate their growth. Facilitating our discussion was our very own Sharaf Saleh, whose passion for Venture Capital and investments was kindled by Alfanar's profound mission. Last Wednesday, we conducted our second Inspirational Insight session for ifada 5.0: "Understanding Venture Building with Hamed Masri & Nafez Dakkak". Led by Hamed Masri and Nafez Dakkak, our current fellows and alumni explored the fundamental strategies for value creation and capture within venture building, an emerging asset class. They delved into distinguishing venture building from other venture capital-backed assets and discovering the key success factors. Hamed Masri, an experienced investor, venture builder, and former founder, specializes in early and growth-stage investments across MENA. His involvement with BLDR Ventures and current role as a Series A investments partner at Silicon Badia provide a comprehensive view from operator to investor realms. Nafez Dakkak has directed BLDR Ventures, a venture studio reshaping the learn-to-earn cycle in MENA, for nearly three years. With expertise in ed-tech and fundraising, Nafez offers a wealth of practical knowledge and insights. Numan Numan boasts over three decades of experience in global investment and technology, with a history of identifying innovations and driving business growth in Emerging Europe and MENA through roles at Credit Suisse and Goldman Sachs. Ali Karabey specializes in technology and communications investments, having steered finance teams across North America and Europe. His expertise has been instrumental in driving the growth of companies in the Middle East. During the session, our fellows delved into 212's successes in institutionalizing funds, their quality maintenance, and reach expansion. They explored the duo's trailblazing initiatives and learned how innovation drives transformative change.
