Earlier this week, we held a joint event with Covington & Burling LLP at our Tokyo office regarding global perspectives on medical device regulation, U.S. and China market pathways, challenges, and emerging policies. Pamela Forrest, Scott Danzis, John Balzano, Mariko Mimura, Yoko Kasai, Inuzuka Alisa, and Taisuke Kimoto explored the complexities of U.S. FDA regulations, including the evolving framework for digital health and AI, as well as the impact of potential reforms under the Trump administration. They also examined China's regulatory landscape for medical devices, its challenges for international companies, and the potential impact of new U.S. policies like the Biosecure Act on global medical device development. Thank you to everyone who attended. For more information about future events, visit our website: https://lnkd.in/gqWiK9AP

In November 2024, we hosted Darrell Chan (Deputy General Counsel) and Yuichiro Watanabe (Lead Counsel, Japan) from Airbnb’s APAC Legal Team for an insightful internal lunch session on the importance of DE&I in law firms. As highlighted by Mr. Chan, DE&I is crucial for improving service quality, fostering innovation, and enhancing performance. The session also featured a dynamic discussion with managing partner Ryutaro Nakayama and a fireside chat with Mr. Watanabe, who emphasized that DE&I is essential for both organizational competitiveness and growth. This session reinforced our ongoing commitment to creating a workplace where diverse perspectives thrive and contribute to delivering exceptional legal services. We believe that an ideal organization highlights a wide array of skills that come together and function cohesively. Collectively and individually, there is respect and support for the different forms of diversity, including gender, age, nationality, race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, and gender identity, in all areas where we operate. Diversity, Equity & Inclusion have been essential to our growing success, enabling us to respond to the needs of our clients across jurisdictions by providing them with multi-faceted approaches and different perspectives. In honor of International Women's Day on March 8, we are highlighting wisdom from some of our lawyers. Tokyo partners Maya Ito, Cuiping Zhang, Taeko Suzuki, Yukiko Tomimatsu, and Junko Watanabe shared their advice for supporting women in the workplace.
