Day 2 of the Africa CISO Summit at Radisson Blu, Upperhill kicked off with an insightful session. Bright Gameli Mawudor, PhD , presented "Inside the Mind of the Attacker," highlighting the critical need for organizations to strengthen their information security posture. Gameli challenged the audience with a thought-provoking question: "How can you claim ISO 27001 compliance if physical security is lax?" This highlighted the importance of a holistic approach to cybersecurity. He then advocated for replacing traditional antivirus software with Endpoint Detection and Response (EDRs). Furthermore, Gameli emphasized the need to move beyond Zero Trust solutions and adopt an intelligent risk mitigation strategy. The session concluded with a powerful call to action. Gameli stressed the importance of investing in student cybersecurity education, fostering collaboration, increasing R&D efforts, and building public-private partnerships. This session was an excellent way to start day two of the summit. It provided valuable insights and a clear message: information security demands a comprehensive and intelligent approach. It was a long and informative day of learning in Nairobi as 369 Global partnered with Cyber Guard Africa Limited and Startinev to present an AfricaHackon masterclass on Cybersecurity, "Training to Secure Africa's Cyber Future" in a hybrid format at the United States International University - Africa. More than 400 in-person attendees and a few hundreds more logging into the virtual stream heard from homegrown experts about internet governance and data protection, Cloud security, API exploitation, threat intelligence versus threat monitoring, and digital forensics. Drawing on our experience in skilling postsecondary learners in Cybersecurity at Computek College, one of Ontario's leading regulated career colleges, I highlighted our interest in helping bring Computek's expertise to other international jurisdictions and work with local domain leaders to strengthen domestic workforce development and improve tech labour mobility, particularly between Africa and Canada. But perhaps what was the highlight of the day was the opportunity to get out of boardrooms and conference halls and meet so many young, smart, and hardworking Kenyans on the ground and hear of their ambitions and aspirations. There is truly such an abundance of talent in Kenya that Canada only stands to benefit from for our own future growth and prosperity. My sincere thanks to Bright Gameli Mawudor, for his fantastic leadership of Cyber Guard Africa Limited in successfully executing this learning event in just a matter of weeks!
