About us
The Aquaya Institute is a non-profit research and consulting organization. We deliver knowledge and tools to help achieve universal access to safe water. Aquaya strengthens public and private delivery of clean water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) access in developing countries by combining cutting edge research with strategic consulting. Founded in 2005 by two PhD scientists, Aquaya’s goal is to bridge the divide between academic research and field implementation of measures that expand access to safe drinking water. We provide our clients and partners with in-depth knowledge and experience across a range of disciplines from water quality monitoring to consumer research to impact evaluation.

"The localization agenda cannot succeed if the institutional capacities of national NGOs remain weak. I use this occasion to urge the Government and Development Partners to revisit the funding models for CONIWAS members and increase financial support for WASH service delivery and organizational growth." - Beata Akanyani, Chairperson, Coalition of NGOs in Water and Sanitation (CONIWAS) Here are highlights from the Mole WASH Conference held at the Volta Serene Hotel - HO, Volta Region, Ghana. The conference is an important national platform where Ghana’s most pressing Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene issues are deliberated upon, and appropriate solutions are proffered. Our Research Manager, Stanley Sam, presented the demand for sanitation products in rural Northern Ghana and insights from an #ENWASH study that evaluates incentive-based strategies to increase sales of sanitation products. Our Program Manager, Seyram Ama Asimah, presented wealth disparities in water access, quality, expenditures, and perceived insecurity in urban Ghana from the #URBANWASH study. Dominic Bampo from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (#REALWater) presented insights from the Water Quality Assurance Fund: an innovative model for promoting water quality monitoring in rural areas. Lawrence Ofori-Addo, from Ghana Water Company Ltd., presented updates from the #URBANWASH Accra study. A complex interplay of factors influences the success of WASH programs in rural areas. While funding is essential, it is not the sole determinant of success. Community involvement and government support also play crucial roles in ensuring sustainable and equitable access to WASH services. #PolloftheWeek: #AquayaAsks:
