On Wednesday 16th October 8:30am - 10:00am, Elise and Mariana will be hosting a side event titled “Building Climate Resilience in WASH: Practical Approaches for Implementing Organisations and Funders”. The session will share insights from the global study conducted for the Shockwave and Osprey Foundations, and highlight challenges, present a Theory of Change with good practices, and explore the role of funders and influential organisations in supporting CR-WASH. The event is convened by Aguaconsult, Osprey Foundation and Shockwave Foundation with participation from United Purpose/ Self Help Africa, WaterAid, Water For People and the University of Bristol. On the 15th of July 2024, Aguaconsult facilitated a validation workshop hosted by the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation and supported by UNICEF Kenya. Khuzwayo Tembo (WASH Engineer / Specialist at Aguaconsult) and Dr. joy Riungu (Independent Consultant) presented highlights of the Situational Analysis of the Enabling Environment for Safely Managed Onsite Sanitation (SMOSS) in Kenya, and presented a draft Strategy for Scaling Up SMOSS in Kenya to sector stakeholders. Aguaconsult was commissioned by the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Kenya and UNICEF Kenya, to assess the enabling environment for Safely Managed Onsite Sanitation (SMOSS) and develop a strategy for scaling up SMOSS. The validation workshop was a final stage of the process which included a comprehensive set of consultations with sector leaders and experts, and field immersion visits in several counties of Kenya. Its almost a year since Aguaconsult moved to becoming Employee-Owned, and also Employee-Ownership day. What a year its been.
