The current state of #DNS security across Africa reflects varying levels of adoption and a range of security practices. DNS Security Extensions (#DNSSEC) add a layer of authentication to DNS responses, ensuring users are directed to legitimate websites rather than fraudulent or malicious ones. The study found that African countries with low DNSSEC adoption rates are at higher risk for DNS hijacking, which can result in serious financial and reputational damage. Countries like Ghana, Morocco, Rwanda, and Côte d'Ivoire have recently made significant strides in their national DNSSEC validation rates. However, countries such as Nigeria, Egypt, Algeria, and Ethiopia have yet to implement DNSSEC validation, leaving their internet users more vulnerable to cyber threats. 🌏Exciting News in the World of Digital Inclusion! 🌏 ICANN and UNESCO are teaming up to champion Universal Acceptance (UA), a crucial step towards making the internet accessibile for everyone, everywhere. The third annual UA Day will be held on and around 28 March 2025, with events virtually and all around the world. 🔗 Why does it matter? Communities worldwide that don’t use the A-Z script often face barriers accessing online services (for example, inability to use a web form with an email address in Chinese, Arabic or Russian). Universal Acceptance guarantees that all domain names and email addresses—regardless of script or language—are recognized and accepted by all internet services. 💻 Developers and system administrators, it's time to take action! The ICANN and UNESCO collaboration aims to raise awareness among developers about this critical issue. Ensuring Universal Acceptance showcases your organization's commitment to digital inclusion. —> Support a multilingual internet and ensure seemless UX in various languages. —> Empower local economies by enabling businesses to reach global markets seamlessly. 🏆2025 UA Day proposals are currently being solicited from all relevant organizations, including academia, community groups, technical and technology organizations, email service providers, software and technology developers, and others. Interested parties may submit an event proposal by 11 October 2024. See more information here: https://lnkd.in/gkwhMctE 🌍 I’m also proud that the Coalition for Digital Africa is backing Universal Acceptance. The Association of African Universities and ICANN are collaborating to support the integration of UA topics into university curricula. https://lnkd.in/gKq4zJUJ #DigitalInclusion #UniversalAcceptance #ICANN #UNESCO #CDA #AAU #Internet4All
