Geography, Climate action & Sustainability in Renewable Energy in Transport, Urban & Displaced Settlements.
Salute Pius Musyimi Wathome 🫡 Thank you for the continued partnership with Environment Institute of Kenya & noble support for #EIKConference2024 #EIKat10 GIZ Kenya Electric Mobility Association of Kenya (EMAK)

Mombasa was absolutely amazing!!. During the 3rd Environment Institute of Kenya International Conference held at Mombasa Continental Resort that took place between 23rd-25th October 2024,I was honoured to speak and listen to fellow #Energy #Transport and #ClimateChange advocates and champions. I shared insights on the project "Promotion of Electric Mobility in Kenya" being implemented by GIZ Kenya Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH With Kenya's ambitious goal to achieve net zero pollution by 2050, #electricmobility plays a pivotal role towards achieving that through #cleaner,#renewable and #sustainable #transport and #mobility. There is need for an accelerated adoption of electric mobility in Kenya 🇰🇪 with more than 93% of its energy being renewable and max consumption of about 70%. With such favourable sources and quantities energy to support the uptake of #emobility, there are a few challenges that need to be addressed for us to realize our ambitious net zero especially through transportation and mobility. The big question is, what do we need to do when it comes to #policiesandstandards,#capacitybuilding, #privatesectorsupport and #accesstoginance. These are the major challenges facing the accelerated adoption of #emobility in Kenya. As a #skillsdevelopment expert, I shared insights on how we can build capacity to handle the #aftersales #technical and #softskills that are #industryrelevant and #productive. -#Skillsgapanalysis is key to understand the #industryneeds and what should be done to bridge the gap. -#CurriculumDevelopment relevant to the current technology and business developments in the industry. -#TrainingofTrainers based on the #Curriculum to be ready to train the various #competencies as outlined by each standard. -#DualTVET #training will ensure a continuous synchrony and #knowledge absorption by students by #upskilling and #reskilling both in school and industry. The outcome is an up to date competent innovative #greenskilled work force towards a sustainable economic development. 💡 As part of our onboarding process, KIFFWA - Kenya Innovative Finance Facility for Water usually conducts a thorough environmental assessment for all projects. Environmental, Social and Governance (#ESG) reporting is a key component for all our projects. This is to ensure that our projects are environmentally friendly in our quest to help the country achieve #SDG13. 🌴 Last week from October 23rd -25th, over 200 participants from national and county governments, the private sector, NGOs, and academic institutions gathered in Mombasa for a conference organized by the Environment Institute of Kenya whose theme was "Climate Change and Energy Transition." 🌱 The event kicked off with a mangrove planting activity at Mtwapa Creek, where participants, in collaboration with Comensum Self Help Group, planted over 2,000 Ceriops tagal seedlings. Our Environmental Champion Engineer Ruth Onyango represented KIFFWA at the conference and contributed to planting 48 seedlings. ⚡ The conference underscored the importance of developing climate-resilient infrastructure and adopting clean energy solutions to combat climate change. This aligns with KIFFWA’s mission to catalyze investments in climate-resilient water initiatives through financial and technical support. KIFFWA has invested in three hydropower projects with over 15MW of clean energy to be generated on completion, aligning with #SDG7. The necessity for Climate Vulnerability Assessments in physical infrastructure design was highlighted, reflecting KIFFWA's commitment to support sustainable climate initiatives with effective mitigation measures. #climateresilient #environmentsustainability #energytransition #climatechange

Asante Elijah! #EIKConference2024 #EIKat10
This past week, I had the privilege of attending the Environment Institute of Kenya's 3rd Annual Conference and Exhibition, which also celebrated a decade of remarkable growth for EIK. The theme this year—Climate Change & The Energy Transition—resonated deeply with Electric Mobility Association of Kenya (EMAK) and GIZ Kenya efforts in the e-mobility sector. As a delegate, I engaged in insightful interactions around Climate Innovations & Financing Mechanisms, where we explored the critical role of sustainable technology in addressing climate change and transforming the transport sector. It was inspiring to see how various stakeholders are committed to implementing innovative solutions that not only reduce carbon emissions but also enhance energy efficiency. I am grateful for the opportunity to connect with fellow enthusiasts and professionals to share ideas on advancing Kenya's e-mobility initiatives. Together, we can drive meaningful change and contribute to a sustainable future. Thank you to the Environment Institute of Kenya for organizing such an impactful event! and many thanks to Electric Mobility Association of Kenya (EMAK) and GIZ Kenya for facilitating my attendance alongside EMAK members and Pius Musyimi Wathome #EIKConference #ClimateChange #EnergyTransition #EMAK #SustainableTransport #Innovation #GIZ Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH
