#EnergyThatTransforms: Today, Practical Action in Kenya, in partnership with BasiGo, convened key players in the e-mobility sector to discuss tools to secure a sustainable future for this growing industry. The discussions focused on the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) frameworks and the Environmental and Social Management Systems (ESMS) we are developing for the e-mobility sector. This is part of an initiative supported by P4G Partnerships. "Kenya’s e-mobility sector is expanding rapidly.ESG considerations are crucial for e-mobility firms to ensure responsible business practices and to attract high-value financing for growth," said Susan Maina, Practical Action in Kenya's Country Director in her keynote address. BasiGo's ESG Manager Mukiri Joy took participants through an overview of ESG modules and the need for firms to develop compliance roadmaps. P4G Partnerships's Paul Mbole noted that once completed, these ESG and ESMS tools will be available for e-mobility startups to adapt to their unique needs. An engaging panel discussion featuring Tim Mwangi, Jemimah Muli, Francis Romano, Mukiri Joy and Silvia Mwaura explored the challenges and opportunities in implementing ESG in the e-mobility sector. Practical Action in Kenya's Project Manager George Theuri said further consultations with industry stakeholders are planned to ensure the final ESG and ESMS toolkits are well-tailored to the sector's requirements. Together, we're paving the way for a responsible and sustainable e-mobility future in Kenya.

BasiGo is proud to announce that we have successfully raised $42 Million in capital to further our mission to electrify public transport in Africa! The funding is led by a $24 Million Series A equity round led by Africa50 Infrastructure Investment Platform , one of Africa’s premier African investment funds backed by African Development Bank Group and 29 African governments. The Series A also features new investment from SBI Investment  and follow-on investment from Novastar Ventures, CFAO Kenya, mobility54, Trucks Venture Capital, Moxxie Ventures, and Susquehanna Foundation.  The Series A funding satisfies a key commitment to unlocking the $10 million loan facility from the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) for BasiGo Kenya. It also unlocks an additional $7.5 million debt facility from British International Investment (BII) to scale BasiGo’s E-bus deployments in Rwanda. BasiGo is honored to have the support of marquee investors committed to long-term sustainable development on the African continent. Exciting news from BasiGo Rwanda! Yesterday, Oct-8th, we marked a significant milestone in our journey toward sustainable transport with the introduction of Electric Buses designed for operations beyond Kigali – a groundbreaking first for Rwanda!  We have rigorously tested these buses on routes from Kigali to various regions, including Musanze, Bugesera, Muhanga, Rwamagana, Rwagitima, and Nyanza, with exceptional performance. Remarkably, all these routes are possible on a single charge!  We're also delighted to welcome two new operators: Excel Travel & Tours Agency, our first intercity bus operator, and S.U Direct Services LTD.  Importantly, these new buses feature wheelchair ramps, promoting accessibility for all passengers. This expansion marks a significant step forward in sustainable transportation for Rwanda, and we're proud to lead the charge in this eco-friendly revolution!
