By 2030, Africa's solar energy sector is expected to create 1.7 million new jobs, making up 57% of all green jobs on the continent. As investments in solar energy increase, the demand for skilled workers, especially in rural areas, grows. However, the lack of qualified technicians, high payroll costs, and untrained labor make it difficult for solar companies to scale and meet this demand. Instollar is addressing this challenge by connecting solar companies with a vetted, gig-based workforce of skilled technicians, enabling faster and more efficient solar installations. We're excited to support Instollar through the Catalyst Jobtech Accelerator as they expand their impact and grow their workforce solution across Africa. Training refugees in digital skills is not new, but the real challenge is creating a path to lasting, sustainable work. Can refugees reliably access remote jobs and stay competitive as the digital landscape shifts? And who will support this for the long term? Our goal at the International Labour Organization is to build a system where refugees can consistently find and maintain meaningful work in the digital space. Today, we’ve brought together experts and market players from both the supply and demand sides to help us identify issues and opportunities for refugees delivering digital work for local and international clients. A big thanks to Jobtech Alliance and Konexio Africa for their insights, connections, and support in setting this up!
