Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation.
About us
MSF medical teams work in more than 70 countries to provide lifesaving assistance where it is needed the most. In 2019, 65,000 people worked with MSF in conflicts, epidemics, following natural disasters and where people would not otherwise have access to medical care. We work according to principles of independence, neutrality and impartiality; providing assistance to people who need it the most, regardless of who they are, where they come from, their political or religious beliefs. The organisation has some of its largest medical projects across East Africa including in Sudan, South Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Somalia and Burundi. In these countries, MSF runs hospitals, health centres and mobile clinics and launches emergency projects as spikes in healthcare needs arise.

Amid a spike in malaria cases in Baringo County, driven by heavy rains and stagnant water, MSF is partnering with the local Ministry of Health to bring care closer to those in need. Health access challenges have delayed critical care, with many living over 40km from a health facility. Our teams are running mobile clinics, distributing 8,800 mosquito nets, and training 26 community health promoters. This work is crucial as health services face shortages of staff, tests, and treatments. "We have lost many children due to distance to hospitals," says a mother from Baringo. #MSF #Baringo #Kenya #MalariaResponse

An alarming number of children suffering from severe malaria have been admitted to the Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)-supported Aweil State Hospital in Northern Bahr el Ghazal (NBeG) state, South Sudan, over the past three months. While efforts have been made to replenish supplies in some health clinics in Northern Bahr el Ghazal over recent weeks, the delays have cost lives. To stem the rising tide of severe malaria cases, there is an urgent need for more test and treat centres to be opened so that children can be treated on the spot before their condition deteriorates Read more: https://bit.ly/3Au65jE

As the war in #Lebanon casts a shadow of devastation for millions of people across the country, community-led initiatives and local efforts are testament to the surviving solidarity and hope among Lebanese society. In the heart of #Beirut, one such initiative is providing a lifeline for people housed in the Al Azarieh building—once a bustling commercial centre, now a shelter for more than 2,500 people who have been displaced by Israeli bombardments and incursions. MSF is supporting the implementation of a kitchen project that is providing free meals for people here, launched by local NGO, Ahla Fawda, and restaurant, Barzakh. Read more: https://bit.ly/4hxIZJx

Following a cholera outbreak declared in August, MSF responded in several states in #Sudan, such as Kassala, Khartoum, El Gedaref, and River Nile, with treatment centres, rehydration points, water distribution, handwashing stations, latrines, hygiene kits and community health awareness. In El Gedaref city, for example, MSF runs a 50-bed cholera treatment centre. Watch the video for more information.

"My family is incomplete here. My mom, my dad, seven of us siblings- there's nine of us in total. But the war separated us. Some of my family made it out of West Darfur, but the rest haven’t joined us yet. We fled in a state of panic, terrified of the war. We didn’t have time to take anything with us, and some of us even arrived barefoot. We walked 20 kilometres to get here, on foot. Along the way, we encountered rapid support forces who threatened us. Some of the young men traveling with us were accused of belonging to the Masalit tribe. They were arrested and killed. We thought we would die too. I couldn’t imagine we’d survive. The memories of fleeing stay with me. When I think about the tragedies, what pain we left behind, there’s no way I can go back. But I hear some people say they would rather return to the war in Sudan than endure the hell we face in the camp. I got here in July of last year, so it’s been almost a year, and now I’m 24 years old. Our situation is tragic. We left one difficult situation, only to find ourselves in an even worse one. We lack the basic necessities for living— drinking water and food. It’s been four or five months in Iridimi camp since we last received any food aid. Now, my family and I are desperate. We need education, healthcare, and a better future. But the reality we live in is bleak. I feel stuck, caught between Sudan, where the future is uncertain, and Chad, where I don’t belong," says Aziz Adam, displaced from West Darfur.

In Tulkarem, West Bank, Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) is conducting "Stop the Bleed" trainings to equip communities with lifesaving first aid skills during ongoing military incursions. With limited access to ambulances and medical services, residents of camps like Nur Shams and Tulkarem Camp are learning how to step in and provide immediate care to the injured when they need it most. As restrictions on volunteers increase, this training has become critical to protect and empower those facing life-threatening situations daily. https://lnkd.in/dNkns3Vs #MSF #StopTheBleed #HumanitarianAid #WestBank

After months of planning and renovations, MSF and the Ministry of Health have officially launched a 48-bed paediatric unit at Bentiu State Hospital, Unity State, South Sudan. This new facility will offer life-saving care for children, including vaccinations, malaria treatment, and inpatient services. The launch marks a new chapter in MSF’s 9-year commitment to Bentiu, where we have provided essential healthcare to both internally displaced people and the host population. In 2023 alone, MSF teams in the facility conducted 45,987 emergency room consultations, treated 4,352 patients with malaria, and admitted 1,277 children into the inpatient therapeutic feeding center (ITFC). Additionally, MSF provided care for 712 expectant mothers, 1,193 surgical cases, 499 deliveries, 495 TB/HIV patients, and 1,504 measles cases. This transition is part of a larger effort to ensure long-term, accessible, and free healthcare services in Unity State as MSF gradually shifts primary and secondary care to the hospital, empowering local health systems to support the community. After paediatrics, the maternity, surgical, and emergency room will follow, until all the services are moved to Bentiu State Hospital – a process expected to be completed by the end of 2025. https://lnkd.in/dc9NjDzG #MSF #Bentiu #UnityState #SouthSudan #Healthcare #PaediatricCare

“UNRWA is a lifeline for Palestinians. If implemented, the ban on UNRWA’s activities would have catastrophic implications on the dire humanitarian situation of Palestinians living in Gaza, as well as in the West Bank, now and for generations to come. We strongly condemn this decision, which is the culmination of a long-running campaign against the organisation,” says Christopher Lockyear, MSF Secretary General. https://lnkd.in/dTJndWB3 #UNRWA #HumanitarianAid #Palestine #Gaza #WestBank #MSF
