Nakuja project

On Wednesday 8 May 2024, a joint team from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and the Kenya Space Agency (KSA) achieved a significant milestone in field tests of the Nakuja 3.5 rocket. The Nakuja series of rockets is an R&D project undertaken by the joint team aimed at developing capabilities in rocketry for future satellite and payload launch applications. During the field tests carried out at the Isiolo School of Infantry Range, the Nakuja 3.5 rocket attained the highest apogee recorded in its series, before being safely recovered through successful deployment of its parachute. The successful launch and recovery of the rocket is a testament of the significant progress realized in rocketry design and development as an important element towards national space capability. JKUAT Faculty members, led by Dr. Anthony Muchiri and accompanied by Nakuja project lead Dr. Shohei Aoki, paid a courtesy call to the Director- General of the Kenya Space Agency, Brigadier Hillary Kipkosgei, to update him on the progress of the Nakuja Rocket project. The visit included a briefing on the successful launch of the Nakuja-3 (N-3) Rockets and discussions about immediate future plans. 🌟 Thrilled to Share! 🌟 I'm delighted to share some incredible news: our team, the Nakuja project and my amazing colleagues, has achieved a major milestone—the successful development of an augmented spark igniter (ASI)! After months of hard work, dedication, and collaboration, we have overcome numerous challenges to create a cutting-edge igniter for our liquid rocket engine. This accomplishment marks a significant step forward in advancing our goals and pushing the boundaries of innovation. In honor of Catherine Kabura, we've renamed one of the N3 rockets from Nyati to Kabura as a tribute to her golden heart 🧡. A simple but powerful gesture that reflects who Cate was – 💯 A Queen 👑.

It is with deep regret that we announce the sad demise of our project member and student engineer, Catherine Kabura. She has contributed a lot to the team and put tremendous effort into preparing for the N3 launch. We appreciate what she brought to our project. Our deepest condolences to her family. May she rest in peace. #rip Brilliant, firm, determined, driven, and so visionary, a great leader ✨ The entire Nakuja project team is grateful that our paths crossed 😊 We're so happy to have known you. So much potential and such a gem. A woman of great character, and you will be remembered as such! ✨♥️
