On 27 March 2025, The Kenya Space Agency (KSA) technical team engaged in discussions with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) on artificial intelligence (AI) talent development initiatives aimed at benefiting both the country and the continent. The conversations underscored the immense potential of AI applications in space and various other sectors, covering both short-term and long-term strategies. We are proud to announce that Geovian Tadzi Stower, a Space Infrastructure & Facility Development Engineer at the Kenya Space Agency (KSA), has been confirmed as a Technical Committee member of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) Space Transportation Committee (STS). This historic appointment, was confirmed during the IAF Spring Meeting in Paris, France, marks a significant milestone as Mr. Stower becomes the first African to serve on this global committee, which focuses on the activities related to various space transportation missions and systems (launch vehicle systems, propulsion stages – expendable or reusable, manned or unmanned), as well as their safety and support operations. Mr. Stower's appointment is a testament to the growing prominence of Kenya in the global space arena. As Kenya actively explores space transportation and launch capabilities his presence on the STS Committee will provide invaluable insights, access to global best practices, and networking opportunities with leading space-faring nations and commercial companies. On March 24, 2025, the Director General of the Kenya Space Agency (KSA), Brig. Hillary Kipkosgey, joined H.E. Namgya Khampa, the High Commissioner of India to Kenya, in celebrating this year’s Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Day at Trademark Hotel, Nairobi. The event brought together ITEC alumni from various government ministries, departments, and agencies. ITEC was instituted in 1964 as a capacity building program administered by the Development Partnership Administration-II Division of the Ministry under the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. ITEC program has trained officials from over 160 countries in both the civilian and in the defence sector. During the event, the DG participated in a panel discussion on "Empowering Leaders & Building Nations through ITEC," where he highlighted the training KSA received through the program on Remote Sensing and GIS for Agricultural Informatics at the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) in Dehradun. The training has strengthened KSA’s capacity to collaborate with county governments in applying GIS technology to enhance the use of space-derived data for decision-support in agriculture.

Kenya Space Agency Hosts National Rounds of the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition On 21 March ,2025, the Kenya Space Agency (KSA) hosted the National Rounds of the prestigious Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition which was instituted by the International Institute of Space Law (IISL) in 1992. This competition promotes the further development of space law and the expansion of the rule of law in the exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes. The event brought together teams from various universities, including Africa Nazarene University, Strathmore University, Mount Kenya University - MKU , Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), and The Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA). The participating students engaged in intense and intellectually stimulating moot court sessions, demonstrating their legal expertise and advocacy skills in the specialized field of space law and international law. Among the 5 teams, Africa Nazarene University emerged the winner with Strathmore University securing the first runners-up positions. Both teams will represent Kenya at the Africa Regional Round, scheduled to take place in South Africa from May 22nd to 24th, 2025. The winning team in the Africa Region will compete in the World Finals, which will be held at the 76th International Astronautical Congress (IAC), scheduled for 29 September – 3rd October 2025, in Sydney Australia, as part of the 69th IISL Annual Colloquium in conjunction with the 76th IAC, the world’s largest convention of global space agencies and space industry. A distinguished panel of judges, comprising Prof Isaac Rutenberg, Counsel Kuria Waithaka, Counsel Joyce Ndumia, Counsel Melanie Munyori, Counsel Joan Kiama, and Lt Col Arnette Naija. The sessions were coordinated by Joan Chesoni, KSA Board Director. The DG KSA, Brig Hillary Kipkosgey highlighted the significance of such initiatives in fostering a new generation of legal professionals well-versed in space law, ensuring that Kenya remains actively engaged in shaping international space governance. #Spacelaw #IISL

Kenya Space Agency Engages Young Innovators at Inaugural International Pi Day On Saturday, March 15, 2025, the Kenya Space Agency (KSA) Education and Awareness team participated in the inaugural International Pi Day, co-hosted by Daystar University and the Scientists Of Kenya Association-SCOKA. During the event, KSA team engaged students and participants in interactive sessions, showcasing the Agency’s activities and highlighting opportunities in the space sector. The key highlight of the event was the #STEM Challenge, themed "Numbers and Beyond," which brought together high school students and aspiring innovators from across the country. The challenge offered participants valuable opportunities, including: ✅ Demonstrating their STEM expertise in a nationwide competition. ✅ Receiving mentorship and guidance from STEM professionals. ✅ Gaining recognition and awards for innovative solutions. ✅ Building connections with educators, scientists, and industry leaders.
