Happy World Youth Skills Day 2024! It is an exciting time to be a young person in Africa, with a wave of change sweeping through our continent and our youth at the heart of it all. As we celebrate #WorldYouthSkillsDay2024, let us reflect on the following: 1. The Future is Here: Young Africans are leading change in every facet of our economies. They are demanding accountability, good governance, and their rightful place in decision-making. Let's support the development of the #leadership skills they need as they take the steering wheel. 2. Harnessing Education and Technology: Our young people are better educated than past generations. However, much more needs to be done to harness their energy and grit, especially in technology for development. Beyond advocating for skills in #STEM, let's elevate our efforts and tackle persistent problems through the application of #DesignThinking in our learning processes. 3. Empowering Storytellers: Let's empower our young people to tell and own #TheAfricanStory. This will require skills in #communication, #research, #writing, #creativity, and #criticalthinking. What a sad day in Kenya. We mourn the loss of our young people who had shown up in peaceful protests to express their dissatisfaction with the #Financebill2024, which in fact is the democratic right of every Kenyan. I pray for the peace and comfort of all who lost their loved ones. To our President and national leaders; For a long time we've desired that our young people participate in the decision making process. Our expression of dissatisfaction with the #Financebill2024 was a huge step in the right direction for our democracy. Many countries, including developed nations, are struggling to increase civic participation among the youth. It was therefore unnecessary to push back in the manner that you did. As a result, our young people feel dejected and bitter. Our nation needs healing and reconciliation. True healing and reconciliation will come if the voices of the people are heard and justice prevails. That is #thekenyawewant

On Tuesday, June 25th, 2024, Kenyans will once again take to the streets to reject the Finance Bill 2024. This is not just a protest against a bill; it's a stand against the blatant corruption and misuse of public funds by politicians. We have had enough of politicians flaunting wealth that their official salaries cannot justify. We see millions budgeted for their personal luxuries while essential services for the average Kenyan are neglected. This is theft, pure and simple, and it must end now. Despite state-led abductions and intimidation tactics, we remain resolute. Our movement is leaderless in the traditional sense because each one of us is a leader. Our unified voice and vision are our true leaders. We demand the complete overhaul of our leadership to rid Kenya of corruption and mismanagement. Our fight is for a future where leadership is accountable and public resources are used for the benefit of all Kenyans. Last week, on Thursday 22/02/2024, I had the amazing privilege of participating as a judge in the 2nd Edition of the Tech and Innovation Summit organized by the Economics Students Association of Kenya(KESA). I was impressed by the creativity and grit that our students showcased. Every presenter exhibited confidence and great passion for the solutions that they brought forward. Indeed #innovation is the way to go for #Africa. I had an opportunity to interact with the students and these were some of my take-home lessons: 1. Our young people have great potential and carry the solutions needed to transform our continent. They need mentorship, guidance, and support and yes, they are asking for it! Every stakeholder, especially in #education, must rise to the occasion and intentionally nurture these young talents. 2. The continental agenda #agenda2063 is almost unknown to our young people in higher education. A lot more needs to be done to raise awareness and encourage ownership of the aspirations we are working towards as a continent. Institutions of higher learning are the key centers of building and developing human capital that will cater to the needs of 21st-century industrialization for #Africa. Our innovations are supposed to fit our needs and aspirations as a continent, therefore it is imperative that we #empowereducators and support #youthled organizations in #education so that we tailor our research and innovation for #Africa. 3. Lastly and most importantly, interdisciplinary collaboration in research and innovation is where it's at! This was evident during the summit, where we saw students from different disciplines providing innovative solutions. Let's encourage our young people to move beyond the confines of their disciplines and enrich their perspectives, and methodologies to address the pressing needs in our society. I am convinced that #thefutureishere. Youth in #Africa are taking the lead towards an abundant future. We wish to express our heartfelt gratitude for the incredible experience of attending and partnering with the Economics Students Association of Kenya(KESA) in the 2nd edition of their Tech and Innovation Summit (2024). It was a truly enriching event, and we feel privileged to have been part of such a dynamic and forward-thinking team of young people. The summit provided a platform for exchanging groundbreaking ideas, fostering a spirit of innovation and collaboration among Kenyan students. The diverse range of speakers, discussions, and presentations was a testament to the creativity, openness, and potential of the young people in Kenya. Further, the summit offered a unique opportunity for students to build networks and interact meaningfully with professionals in industry.
