Updates

  • Kenya’s tourism sector is experiencing historic growth, welcoming 2.4 million international visitors in 2024 and a total of 7.5 million tourists, an impressive 14.6% increase from 2023. Tourism earnings surged to Ksh. 452.2 billion, reflecting a 19.79% rise. This success underscores the sector’s resilience and the visionary leadership of H.E. President William Ruto. To sustain this momentum, I convened a consultative meeting with CEOs of our line agencies to reinforce a Whole-of-Ministry approach, enhancing agility, strategic alignment and impactful delivery in advancing Kenya’s tourism and conservation goals for the people of Kenya. As we advance, the Ministry will prioritize seamless collaboration, innovation and data-driven strategies to enhance visitor experiences, diversify tourism products and reinforce #MagicalKenya’s position as a global destination of choice. Together, we are shaping a vibrant and sustainable future for our tourism and wildlife sector.

𝐒𝐀𝐅𝐀𝐑𝐈 𝐑𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐘 Kenya continues to shine as a global tourism hub, hosting world-class events that celebrate our sporting excellence while showcasing Kenya as a premier destination for unforgettable experiences. I joined H.E. President William Ruto, fellow leaders, and thousands of fans to witness the thrilling finale of the 72nd WRC Safari Rally at Hell’s Gate, Naivasha, the Rally Capital of Africa. Over 900 million viewers worldwide watched this spectacle unfold, highlighting Kenya’s breathtaking landscapes and its unmatched ability to host global events. WRC Safari Rally has drawn over 40,000 visitors from East Africa and beyond, with the competition involving  20 nationalities and 48 rally participants.

  • Mombasa City is fast becoming a shining star on the global cruise map! As Kenya’s rich history, breathtaking coastline and warm hospitality continue to captivate travelers, we are proud to see Mombasa recognized as a preferred cruise destination. This growth is a testament to Kenya’s rising appeal in the global tourism space, creating new opportunities for local businesses and communities. The future of tourism in Kenya is bright!

  • 𝙺𝚊𝚛𝚒𝚋𝚞 𝙺𝚎𝚗𝚢𝚊! 🇰🇪🚢 Kenya’s tourism sector continues to soar, standing as a pillar of economic growth, cultural exchange and sustainable development. One of the most remarkable success stories has been cruise tourism, which saw a 163.5% increase in arrivals in 2024 alone. This morning, we proudly welcome the Viking Sky to the Port of Mombasa, the fourth major cruise ship arrival this year. The Viking Sky carries over 800 international passengers and 469 crew members from 40 different nations and will be in Mombasa for three days. Notably, 19 Kenyan crew members are part of the team, serving as ambassadors of our world-renowned hospitality! For those stepping onto Kenyan soil for the first time, Mombasa is more than a gateway—it’s a vibrant storybook of culture, history, and adventure. Beyond these coastal shores lies a breathtaking landscape: the vast Rift Valley, iconic wildlife safaris, lush highlands, and hidden gems waiting to be explored. Kenya anticipates 5,600 cruise passengers and crew in the 2024/2025 financial year, reaffirming our position as a premier cruise tourism destination. With strategic investments in infrastructure, product diversification, and enhanced air and sea connectivity, we are committed to making Kenya an irresistible destination for every traveler. To our guests aboard the Viking Sky, karibuni nyumbani, welcome home. As you experience the magic of #MagicalKenya, may you take back cherished memories and inspire others to discover this incredible land.

Last week, we marked a decade of impact by celebrating the 10th Ring the Bell for Gender Equality Ceremony in Kenya. This initiative reaffirmed the pivotal role of businesses in breaking systemic barriers and advancing women’s empowerment. As we rang the bell alongside our partners, leaders were reminded that closing the gender gap could boost Africa’s GDP by up to 50% and that 150 years is far too long to wait for gender equality. The time to act is now! I had the joy of returning to my alma mater, Kapropita Girls, for Baringo Central Thanksgiving Day alongside fellow alumni. It was a moment of deep pride and reflection, a celebration of the foundation that shaped my journey, the friendships that nurtured my dreams, and the values that continue to guide me. As Nelson Mandela so powerfully stated, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” This truth resonates deeply, as we witness the next generation of bright young women preparing to take on the world with confidence and purpose. Congratulations to the Class of 2024! May your journey ahead be filled with courage, resilience, and success. Together with my fellow alumni, we commit to mentoring and nurturing these future leaders, ensuring that the spirit of excellence and empowerment at Kapropita Girls continues to thrive. To every student walking these halls today, dream big, work hard, and never stop believing in the power of your education to shape a better future!

  • Today, I chaired a strategic meeting to explore a partnership for sustainable conservation financing. Our discussions focused on strengthening private sector engagement and leveraging innovative financial tools to drive long-term impact. Key takeaways included monetizing conservation benefits, ensuring return on investment for conservation projects, and scaling solutions that create real value. We also explored the role of technology and AI in modernizing conservation efforts, particularly in enhancing data-driven decision-making, and empowering youth through nature bond enterprises and start-up support. In attendance were Principal Secretary Silvia Museiya, Ambassador Philip Thigo, Special Envoy on Technology, Office of the President, Wildlife Conservation Trust Fund Chairperson Lucy Waruingi and KCB Bank Group.
