    Chief Financial Services Officer

On 12th March, I had the privilege of speaking at the Kenya Women in Tech Africa Summit on Innovating for a Sustainable Future at the Kempinski Hotel. It was an inspiring opportunity to discuss Safaricom’s commitment to ESG and how we’re driving meaningful change. I shared insights from our 2024-2025 Sustainability Report, highlighting our green bond initiatives and the tangible impact we’re making toward the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We’ve secured KES 30 billion in sustainability-linked loans, powering our journey to net-zero emissions by 2050. From expanding renewable energy sites to recycling e-waste and planting over 1.5 million trees, we are taking concrete steps toward a more sustainable future. We’re also proud to align with SDGs 7, 13, 6, and 3, focusing on clean energy, climate action, clean water, and well-being. Beyond environmental impact, we explored how financial innovation, particularly through mobile financial services, is shaping Africa’s sustainability efforts. It’s incredible to see how M-PESA is driving financial and digital inclusion, especially among women and marginalized groups. Through initiatives like the Women Enterprise Fund, which has registered over 900,000 women groups, as well as Boost ya Biashara, and M-Shwari, we have democratized access to credit. As we celebrate MPESA@18, with the launch of Ziidi MMF, we’re enabling customers to conveniently build their wealth on their phones. Additionally, with over 50% of M-PESA transactions now being non chargeable and programs like Inua Jamii making a real difference, I am reminded why we remain committed to transforming lives. At Safaricom, we are dedicated to continuous innovation—meeting our customers’ evolving needs while building a sustainable future. It was truly rewarding to connect with fellow leaders and innovators who share this vision. #KenyaWomenInTech #Sustainability #FinancialInclusion #ESG #Innovation #FintechInnovation #MPESAat18 #MPESANation #Safaricom Safaricom PLC
