During a recent courtesy visit to the Kenya Red Cross, Secretary General Dr. Idriss Ahmed engaged with a delegation from the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) led by Eng. Jacton M., Hon. Secretary, and Eng. Meshack Kidenda, Chair of the Rapid Response Subcommittee. The meeting focused on exploring collaborative opportunities between the Red Cross and the IEK, particularly in providing technical expertise in key projects. The session also highlighted the need for increased synergy between humanitarian and engineering efforts in Kenya. One of the key areas of collaboration discussed was the Red Cross's ongoing Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) projects. The Red Cross invited the IEK to participate in these initiatives by offering technical solutions for water-related projects and contributing to site assessments, designs, and compliance checks. Additionally, the IEK was encouraged to give input to the building code to enhance safety measures, especially in schools, ensuring a secure environment for students. The Red Cross emphasized the importance of engineers in creating sustainable and safe infrastructure, especially in the disaster-prone regions of the country. Another highlight of the meeting was the opportunity for engineers to volunteer with the Red Cross, where they would receive First Aid and humanitarian training. Furthermore, both organizations committed to strengthening their regional ties, with IEK members in different branches nationally working closely with Kenya Red Cross. This collaboration promises to enhance community safety, disaster preparedness, and overall infrastructure resilience across the country.
