On Monday this week, we celebrated Mashujaa Day, a national holiday dedicated to Kenyan heroes who fought for independence. However, over the years, the holiday has evolved, Kenyans now see it as a day to celebrate heroes in their lives and in the country as well. Here at Tuesdays4Trash, we want to honor some of the extraordinary individuals leading the charge against climate change in Kenya. Their dedication and innovation inspire us all to strive for a more sustainable future and it's only right that we recognize them. Charlot Magayi, founder of Mukuru Clean Stoves, has revolutionized the lives of millions of Kenyans by developing affordable, clean cookstoves that reduce indoor air pollution by 90%. Elizabeth Gitari-Mitaru, an environmental lawyer and podcast host for the Conversation Conservations podcasts. Besides using her platform to raise awareness about crucial environmental issues and advocate for stronger policies she also plays an important role in policy and litigation in the effort for change. Fardosa Mustafa, a chapter lead for our very own Tuesdays4Trash_Kenya, is also an environmental lawyer actively engaged in collaborating with communities and organisations to protect natural resources and promote sustainable practices. Isaac Kalua Green, founder of Green Africa Foundation, has been a vocal advocate for sustainable development, reforestation, and environmental conservation. His organization promotes tree planting, renewable energy, and environmental awareness. Mohamed Adow, founder and director of Power Shift Africa, has been at the forefront of the global climate negotiations, advocating for Africa’s interests in climate justice. This list is by no means conclusive, it is just our small way to say to these people and all those like them, that we see you and that we appreciate your efforts. Your dedication and commitment encourage us to take action and create a more sustainable future. #Mashujaaday #EnvironmentalSustainability #ClimateChange #Kenya #Tuesdays4TrashKenya
