SeeBeyondBorders mentors teachers and supports communities to improve education in Cambodia. #ChangeBeginsWithEducation.
About us
At SeeBeyondBorders we believe change begins with education, and we think that quality teaching and learning should be available to everyone. We work in primary schools in Cambodia, a country still recovering from the destruction of its education system under the Khmer Rouge. COVID-19 made a bad situation worse with schools closed for over a year. In partnership with local communities we sustainably improve education standards by training teachers, getting children to school and developing better learning environments. We are an internationally award-winning organisation and the ONLY charity in Cambodia to have been awarded the UNESCO Hamdan Prize for 'Outstanding Practice and Performance in Enhancing the Effectiveness of Teachers'.

Invited Professor of Practice @ Escola Superior de Educação de Paula Frassinetti | Teacher education | Technology | I work in 4 languages
What do teachers really want from continuous professional development? Since 2022, I’ve had the privilege of interviewing 136 teachers from 30 countries about their experiences with #CPD (as well as pre-service preparation and technology). These conversations have been insightful, and I look forward to sharing my findings in various formats over the coming year. In the meantime, if you work on teacher #PD projects, I invite you to read what #teachers consider to be effective #TPD in this just-published article by ASCD @EL Magazine, co-authored with Zahra Harvey, one of the amazing educators I had the honor of interviewing. https://lnkd.in/eYBk_kY5 Many thanks to Tara Laskowski as well as John C. Friend-Pereira ESE de Paula Frassinetti ISTE Petra Wiyakti Bodrogini Sylvaine von Mende Francisco Javier Carrasco Ana Municio Zúñiga Vanessa Lusa Sandra López Iraeta Ana María Raad Sarwat Alam Maribel Jarrin Anna Sullivan Gloria Uyaguari for their help connecting me with teachers. Last night our CEO International Operations Colm Byrne and Provincial Manager Phan Sreyphet had dinner with the new Australian Ambassador to Cambodia Derek Yip and Second Secretary at the Australian Embassy in Phnom Penh Sandra Martinovic. This was the Ambassador’s first visit to Battambang since taking office. Matters discussed included: - The educational and development context in Cambodia - SeeBeyondBorders’ Australian and Cambodian roots - The impact of ANCP for SeeBeyondBorders - Our engagement with Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Australia and Cambodia - Localisation and locally led development - Australian Awards Scholarships - Kramas! We thank the Ambassador and Second Secretary for their genuine engagement in our work and taking the time to learn more about our organisation. For a niche organisation like ours such engagement important and appreciated. We look forward to them visiting our work in schools in 2025.
