Last week, Jacky Wong and Hyejeong Yoon from our Global Markets Team had the opportunity to attend the International Sustainable Energy Summit (ISES) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We had the chance to engage and connect with sustainable energy developers and suppliers in Malaysia, helping us expand our network in the region. It was also inspiring to connect with other industry leaders and discuss the future of sustainable energy transition. Following the conference, our Global Markets Team gathered in Bangkok for a workshop and client meetings. Corporate Environmental Efforts Matter for Access to Capital! 🌱 A new report from the European Central Bank, titled "Climate Risk, Bank Lending and Monetary Policy," highlights how euro-area banks are integrating climate risk into their lending practices: 1️⃣ Banks charge higher interest rates to firms with larger carbon emissions, while offering lower rates to those committed to green transitions - even after accounting for credit risk. 2️⃣ Banks that have committed to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) are walking the talk, providing cheaper loans to firms dedicated to decarbonization and, to a lesser extent, penalizing those with higher emissions. 3️⃣ Even in the face of restrictive monetary policy, firms with low emissions or strong decarbonization commitments experience a milder impact on credit costs and access. This study underscores how crucial it is for corporates to enhance their environmental efforts, as it can directly impact their access to capital.
