🌐 IETA in March — Global engagement, meaningful impact 🌍 From Africa to Asia and Europe to America – March was a powerful month of presence, influence, and progress for IETA, while shaping the carbon market conversation across continents and sectors. Here’s a recap of our month: 🗺️ We participated in over 20 events across Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, and Latin America, contributing to high-level policy forums, technical dialogues, and conferences. 🎤 The IETA policy team shared insights on: Article 6 implementation Carbon farming and removals The role of AI in carbon markets Carbon credit transparency under the EU Green Claims Directive Innovations in emissions trading systems Some of the events we participated in included: Carbon Forward Asia 🇸🇬 CERAWeek 2025 🇺🇸 Economist Sustainability Week 🇬🇧 Eastern Africa Regional Carbon Market Dialogue 🇰🇪 South African Carbon Market Forum 🇿🇦 Global Carbon Market Launch 🇮🇳 EUI High-Level Policy Dialogue 🇮🇹 International Climate Action Forum - Net-Zero City Expo 🇹🇼 Article 6 Implementation Partnership, International Advisory Group Meeting 🇯🇵 Energy Changemakers 🇨🇦 ...and more 📝 IETA also submitted input on important regulatory developments impacting carbon markets. 🌉 California – SB905: In response to a public workshop hosted by California Air Resources Board, we provided input on the implementation of SB905 — the state’s emerging CCUS framework. This state-run program, once in place, could significantly advance carbon dioxide removal (CDR) in California and across the U.S. 🇺🇸 Read our comments here: https://lnkd.in/dD2fseQx 🍁 Canada – Bill C-59: We shared feedback on Canada's legislation to regulate corporate environmental claims. While Bill C-59 aims to increase transparency, our response raised concerns about the risk of green-hushing if companies lack clarity on what constitutes a compliant claim. https://lnkd.in/dCEi-pwg 📢 IETA further submitted input to the UNFCCC’s Baku to Belém Roadmap, highlighting the critical role of carbon markets and Article 6 in scaling private finance for climate action in developing countries. 💰 https://lnkd.in/d7EZcqFg 📄 In addition, we published position papers on critical issues: 🔗 Carbon Removals Carbon Farming Paper: https://lnkd.in/eDQXbaPd 🔗 EU Green Claims Directive Position Paper: https://lnkd.in/eDQXbaPd 👏 Thank you to all our global members for your collaboration. 📢 Follow IETA Events for the latest updates on where our policy team will be speaking and the key issues they’ll be tackling. #IETA #CarbonMarkets #NetZero #GlobalClimateAction #CarbonFinance #Article6 #ClimatePolicy #CarbonCredits #GreenClaimsDirective

📢 IETA submission on Baku to Belém Roadmap IETA made submissions to the UNFCCC on the "Baku to Belém Roadmap", a process launched under the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) decision at COP29 to mobilise at least USD 1.3 trillion annually by 2035 for climate action in developing countries. 🌍 Submission highlights: 💰 Closing the climate finance gap will require significantly scaling up private sector investment — and carbon markets are a vital tool in aligning incentives to direct finance where it’s needed most. 🌱 For over three decades, market-based climate solutions have proven effective in reducing emissions while supporting green growth and sustainable development. 📑 As part of the #BakuToBelém Roadmap, we encourage the inclusion of guidance to support countries in reporting on the use of Article 6 as a complementary instrument in their climate finance strategies. ♻️ The potential of Article 6 to boost interoperability between carbon pricing systems and crediting markets should be explored as a key instrument to scale climate finance in developing countries. We look forward to contributing to a roadmap that brings carbon markets to the forefront of global climate finance solutions. 🚀 🔗 Read the submission here: https://lnkd.in/d7EZcqFg #CarbonMarkets #ClimateFinance #BakuToBelém #Article6 #PrivateFinance #NCQG #UNFCCC #IETA #AfricaClimateAction #COP29

Earlier this month, IETA shared its position on the EU Green Claims Directive — the EU’s proposal to set new rules on how companies substantiate environmental claims, including those involving carbon credits 🌱. As EU negotiations progress, the European Parliament is proposing restrictions that could limit the role of carbon credits in corporate claims, adding requirements that go beyond transparency and disclosure. In response, IETA is calling on EU policymakers to: ✅ Provide clear guidance on how companies can transparently and credibly report the use of carbon credits. 🌍 Allow the use of emission reduction and removal credits for compensation claims — not just for residual emissions at net zero. 🌿 Ensure both nature-based and engineered removals are eligible for compensation claims. 🤝 Accept credits from the EU CRCF as well as equivalent EU or international schemes. IETA calls for clarity on the future use of emission reduction and removal credits to encourage the responsible use of credits in corporate environmental claims. 📄 Read the position paper on our website: https://lnkd.in/dmMfGq-x #IETA #CarbonMarkets #GreenClaimsDirective #NetZero #CarbonCredits #ClimateAction #CarbonRemovals #ClimatePolicy
