Grand Opening of HD Hyundai Electric’s Transformer Core Shop in Ulsan 🏭️ On October 24th, the inauguration ceremony for HD Hyundai Electric's core shop in Ulsan took place! 30 million USD was invested in expanding the core shop, with construction beginning in March last year and successfully completed. The booming global transformer market drove this expansion. By establishing this new core facility, we’ve centralized and relocated dispersed core production lines within the Ulsan factory and repurposed existing facilities to support assembly, enabling us to produce even more transformers. 📈 Expected Impact An increase in sales revenue by approximately 105 million USD through additional transformer production Alongside completing the specialized transformer warehouse in Alabama* and the 300kV transformer shop layout upgrade**, HD Hyundai Electric is responding to the surging transformer demand with this new expansion of the core shop in Ulsan. In a series of Industry Insights, we've highlighted the increasing global demand for electricity. In the U.S. especially, power consumption is soaring in sectors like AI, data centers, and cryptocurrency. However, with nearly 70% of the U.S. power grid being over 60 years old, there's a growing gap between supply and demand. To help bridge this gap, the 765kV transmission line, which offers stable, high-capacity power delivery, is gaining significant attention. What is the 765kV transmission lines? : The 765kV transmission lines are specialized in supplying electric power over long distances and minimizing power losses, making it highly sought after in the U.S. and other countries. 1. Minimized Power Losses : It reduces power losses by 90% compared to the 345kV Line, making it highly efficient. 2. Capability for Long-Distance Transmission : It can reliably supply power from remote power plants to urban areas, helping to balance the power supply across regions. 3. Operational Cost Savings : A single 765kV tower can replace six 345kV towers, reducing operating costs by 20-30%. With these advantages, demand for the 765kV transmission line is on the rise. HD Hyundai Electric is actively responding to this growing demand. Since 2002, we have supplied transformers to the Shinanseong substation, Asia's first 765kV substation, and have since delivered around 160 units of 765kV transformers to both domestic and international markets. ⚡ Exciting News from HDE ⚡ On October 7th, HD Hyundai held a demonstration of a 3MVA ship VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) jointly developed by HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, HD Hyundai Electric, and HD Hyundai Plaspo at the HD Hyundai Electric Rotating Electric Machinery Factory in Ulsan. 🎉 🔧 What is a Ship VFD? : A VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) is a device that controls motor speed, maximizing power generation efficiency. It plays a crucial role in the eco-friendly ‘Shaft Generator System’ onboard ships. ⚡️ Grid-Forming Technology : VFD utilize grid-forming technology, which mimics generator characteristics when connected to the power grid, ensuring stable power supply onboard. With this VFD development, HD Hyundai Electric can now independently supply all key components of the ship’s electrification system, including generators, motors, and switchboards.
