LS Cable & System and LS Eco Energy are strengthening their presence in the U.S. market, starting with the first supply of MV-grade aluminum power cables. We will supply 35 kV aluminum power cables worth USD 25 million (approximately KRW 36.3 billion) to a U.S. solar EPC company. The cables will be used to build power grids for solar power plants across the U.S., including in California, New Jersey and Indiana. These cables enhance the reliability of solar power systems due to their high durability and stable high-voltage transmission performance even in extreme conditions such as high temperatures, rainfall, and dust. LS C&S and LS Eco Energy have been making proactive efforts to keep pace with the continued growth of the U.S. solar power market, including developing high-quality aluminum cables and obtaining UL certification, a U.S. safety standard. LS Eco Energy, a subsidiary of LS Cable & System, plans to secure a stable rare earth supply chain and expand its power infrastructure business by cooperating with the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade.  LS Eco Energy discussed cooperation plans for rare earth development and power network expansion with Minister Nguyen Hong Dien and other officials of the Vietnamese Industry and Trade Ministry as well as related individuals from Vietnam Electricity (EVN), the Electricity and Renewable Energy Authority and Petro Vietnam. We will also expand cooperation with Vietnam for the development of electric power infrastructure. The Vietnamese government plans to increase the country’s power generation capacity to 150GW by 2030 and is reviewing the expansion of its offshore wind power generation capacity and the establishment of a new nuclear power plant. LS Cable & System and LS Marine Solutions have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with British marine engineering company Balmoral Comtec for collaboration on the floating offshore wind power project. Balmoral Comtec is an leading energy company with the world's best technology in building cable protection systems, buoyancy solutions, and submarine infrastructure for the offshore wind power and marine energy industries. LS Cable & System is the first in Korea to develop a dynamic cable for floating offshore wind power that operates stably even in harsh marine environments. Under this partnership, we aim to collaborate with Balmoral Comtec to build a safe operation system for floating offshore wind power cables, optimized for extreme marine conditions. LS Marine Solutions Co. will support this collaboration by enhancing the installation and operational efficiency of the cables and ensuring stable maintenance. Although floating offshore wind currently accounts for only about 1% of the market, it is expected to grow rapidly. LS Eco Energy, a subsidiary of LS Cable & System, recorded its highest ever performance in 2024 thanks to its good performance in the global market and the expansion of its high-value cable business. LS Eco Energy had achieved sales of KRW 869 billion, an operating profit of KRW 44.8 billion, and a net profit of KRW 35.3 billion.  Sales increased by approximately 18.9% compared to the previous year's sales of KRW 731.1 billion, while operating profit increased by approximately 1.5 times and net profit by a whopping 8 times. In particular, the growth in exports of high-value-added cables, such as ultra-high voltage cables and LAN (UTP) cables, to Europe and the United States served as a key driver of growth. In the US market, exports of LAN (UTP) cables increased by approximately 15% year-on-year due to the influence of the de-China strategy, which contributed significantly to the increase in performance. We will expand orders for ultra-high voltage cables in the European market through a cross-selling strategy with LS Cable & System, and begin full-scale sales of URD (underground) and distribution cables in the U.S. market. LS Marine Solutions, a subsidiary of LS Cable & System, has achieved its highest ever sales as it continues its rapid growth. LS Marine Solutions has recorded a provisional performance for 2024 of KRW 130.3 billion in sales and KRW 12.4 billion in operating profit. This is the highest recorded sales since the company was founded, and represents an 84% increase compared to KRW 70.8 billion the previous year. LS Marine Solutions, a subsidiary of LS Cable & System, has moved its headquarters from the KT Songjeong building in Busan to Jungang-daero in Dong-gu. This relocation of the headquarters took place two years after the company changed its name from KT Submarine to LS Marine Solutions. It is expected to be a key turning point for expanding the company’s submarine cable business and strengthening its global competitiveness. The global Busan Port as well as a number of specialized companies in the marine industry are concentrated around Jungang-daero, and LS Marine Solution plans to strengthen its position in the domestic and international markets by using this area as a key base for expanding its submarine business. LS Marine Solutions is considering building large-scale cable-laying ships with the goal of participating in large-scale domestic offshore wind power construction projects and advancing into overseas markets, including Taiwan and the United States. Gaon Cable, a subsidiary of LS Cable & System, has shown continuous growth by recording its highest sales ever. Gaon Cable achieved provisional sales of KRW 1.6469 trillion, a provisional operating profit of KRW 45 billion, and a provisional net profit of KRW 25.5 billion in 2024.  In particular, in terms of sales and operating profit, Gaon Cable has shown steady growth, breaking records for five consecutive years since 2019. According to the company, these record sales were mainly due to increased exports of power cables to North America and the performance of G&P, which was incorporated as a subsidiary in October last year. Gaon Cable plans to expand its business into the renewable energy market, including solar farms in the U.S., and broaden its scope into the power grid and plant sectors. LS Cable & System has completed the construction of Wando-Jeju #3HVDC submarine cable construction. This project is a three-linked Jeju project to build an undersea power grid of about 90 kilometers connecting Wando, Jeollanam-do and Jeju. It was the first in the country to use voltage-type HVDC technology, which allows for real-time control of the direction of electricity supply and quick restoration of electricity during system failures. LS C&S won a plaque of appreciation in recognition of its successful performance and contribution to the stabilization of the power grid at the completion ceremony held at the Dongjeju Conversion Center in Jeju City.
