On October 15-16, our Venture Partner Dominykas Milasius had the opportunity to be part of the European Angel Investment Summit in Brussels. The event brought together some of the brightest minds in the investment world. Dominykas joined an insightful panel discussion on "Opportunities and Challenges of Investing in Defence and Dual-Use Technologies." Moderated by Jack Wang, the panel delved into some of the most pressing topics in the field today. Dominykas shared perspectives on the rapid reiteration of dual-use innovation and how critical it is to keep pace with evolving threats. The conversation also explored the need for more aligned activity across Western allies to push boundaries together. One of the highlights was the call to shift testing and prototyping to the Eastern Flank, a move that could open new opportunities for innovation and development right here, closer to home. As part of this, Dominykas introduced the ambitious plans for the Lithuanian Miltech Sandbox, a project we’re proud to support. What made the event even more special was reconnecting with many familiar faces: European angels and VCs who share the same passion for advancing DeepTech. It’s moments like these that remind us why we do what we do. A special shout-out to our partner Rita Sakus, who was re-elected to the EBAN - European Business Angel Network board 🎉 — an achievement that speaks volumes about her leadership and vision. We couldn't be prouder! Huge thanks to our fellow Lithuanian delegation: Viktorija Trimbel, Linas Sargautis, and Nick Gavril for your incredible support, and to Dominykas' panel co-speakers: Erik Markus Kannike, Emmanuel Ankri, and Jack Wang. It was an absolute pleasure to exchange ideas and insights with you. Looking forward to more opportunities like this, where innovation, collaboration, and passion come together to shape the future 🚀 #europeanangelsummit #EAIS24

🏆 From October 4 to 6, Rīgas Tehniskā universitāte (Riga Technical University) hosted the Baltic AI Hackathon, where the team PPKDR (University of Latvia (Latvijas Universitāte)) won first place with their tool, ClaimCap, designed to analyze real-time social media videos as users view them. This online tool could help combat the growing issue of fake news and improve fact-checking in the online environment. 👏 The winners were chosen from 34 teams and 150 students across the Baltics. 🇱🇻🇱🇹🇪🇪 Second place went to RTU's STOPP team, which developed a solution for identifying risky procurements, thereby enhancing transparency in public procurement processes. Both teams also received recognition from the hackathon's partner, IBM, and the opportunity to collaborate with the company to further develop their solutions. The third place went to the Estonian team (University of Tartu and TalTech – Tallinn University of Technology) with an AI app to guide the appropriate recycling method based on the item's material and local recycling rules.♻️ ℹ️ RTU Science and Innovation Centre organized the hackathon with companies Meta and IBM, TalTech – Tallinn University of Technology, the University of Tartu, and VILNIUS TECH - Vilnius Gediminas Technical University.
