Our latest project has successfully reviewed and analysed the impacts of Erasmus+ initiatives, with a focus on boosting digital skills for learners in vocational education and training (VET), while also improving outreach to NEETs and other vulnerable groups. Highlights: 🔍 Identified 100 innovative practices from the Erasmus+ database, with 30 cases explored in-depth for insights.  💻 Hosted a stakeholder workshop in April 2024, validating our findings and gathering valuable input. 📖 Produced a brochure to inspire creativity and innovation among educational stakeholders. Key Achievements: ✅ Identified effective strategies to enhance digital skills in VET programmes. ✅ Provided guidance to help educators support NEETs. ✅ Shared best practices to ensure sustainability and transferability of project impacts. Our findings offer valuable insights and recommendations for EU stakeholders, contributing to the modernisation of VET systems across Europe. These lessons learned will help ensure that VET programmes remain responsive to labour market needs and support learners' growth. 👉 Check the comments for a link to the European Commission’s website to explore the final output of the study!

We are excited to share that in collaboration with Prognos AG, VTT, and Maastricht University, we have successfully completed the Phase 2 Evaluation Support Study on Horizon Europe's contribution to a Resilient Europe. This comprehensive study serves as an input into the interim evaluation of Horizon Europe, covering the period from 2021 to 2023. ✅ Key findings from the study reveal that all three Clusters are well-aligned with EU priorities. Cluster 1 has been particularly adaptable, addressing critical health challenges like infectious diseases and spearheading significant research efforts on COVID-19 and cancer. Cluster 2 has shown potential in harmonizing technological advancements with the protection of fundamental rights and civil liberties. Meanwhile, Cluster 3 is playing a pivotal role in enhancing the EU's cybersecurity framework and contributing to broader security objectives. 📊 The study also notes improvements in the administrative efficiency of Horizon Europe, with higher project success rates and better funding allocation compared to Horizon 2020. These findings provide valuable evidence to guide future adjustments and reorientations of the programme. 📈 #PPMIprojects

In June 2024, the European Institute for Gender Equality contracted PPMI to conduct the second wave of the CARE survey of gender gaps in unpaid care, individual and social activities. This initiative aims to provide up-to-date, comparable data on time use, essential for effective gender equality policies and enhancing EIGE's Gender Equality Index. Over 14 months, PPMI will gather data from over 60,000 respondents across the EU, which will then be analysed and presented in an EU-wide report and country factsheets. These insights will inform new policies, support the EU Gender Equality Strategy 2020-2025 and the European Care Strategy, and track the EU commitments on early childhood education and care and long-term care. #PPMIprojects

The Directorate General for the Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW) of the European Commission has recently published the Final Report for the study ‘SMEs and Open Strategic Autonomy’. Co-authored by PPMI, CSIL, IDEA Consult, and the London School of Economics’ Trade Policy Hub, the report examines the EU's capacity to act autonomously in strategically important economic areas while fostering beneficial trade relationships. The study analysed 19 critical technologies across nine industrial ecosystems, focusing on the challenges and opportunities that the Open Strategic Autonomy (OSA) approach brings SMEs. The key areas PPMI was involved in include li-ion batteries, fuel cells, AI, and cybersecurity. The report offers an Action Plan to enhance opportunities for SMEs within the EU's approach to OSA through strengthening R&D&I, scaling up efforts, promoting domestic production, expanding global reach, and improving marketing intelligence. You can access the report along with ecosystem-specific analyses online, by following the link in the comments. #PPMIprojects

Government as a Platform (GaaP) aims to transform public governance through co-creation, easy access, and advanced digital technology. The shift from 'vending machine government' to 'marketplace government' promotes collaboration and service optimisation, offering new opportunities for public servants, individuals, SMEs, research institutions, startups, and freelance developers. On May 30, PPMI, TNO, and the European Commission hosted the "NextGen Online Platforms: Foresight Session on the Future of Government as a Platform" in Brussels. Policymakers, experts, and academics gathered to explore the future of digital public governance toward 2035. The session highlighted both opportunities and challenges for GaaP, connected to digital skills' and infrastructure in line with the EU's Digital Decade targets, data interoperability, and emerging technologies, among others. Participants also discussed potential future scenarios, which can play out differently depending on the decentralisation of public service provision, scale of anticipatory services, level of automation and outsourcing to private tech companies. Intellectual property (IP) protects creations of the mind, from inventions to artistic works. It nurtures innovation and secures commercial rewards by providing exclusive rights to creators. As digitalisation transforms various aspects of life, it is crucial to understand how platformisation is changing IP creation, protection, and enforcement. PPMI, in collaboration with TNO and the European Commission, recently hosted a foresight session on the future of IP in a platformised world. Part of the study ‘Participatory Foresight into Next Generation Online Platforms,’ the event gathered policymakers, experts, and practitioners to discuss IP challenges and opportunities for 2035. Follow the link in the comments to learn more about the foresight session and the entire study. #PPMIprojects
